I found some money...

We are currently on holiday, arrived yesterday. Had to make up the beds and when I pulled the mattress up, I found an envelope with £175 in it. On the front of the envelope it had a woman's name on it.
Obviously someone has left this behind and I would have been devastated if I had lost that amount of money. My husband and I agree that if we handed it in (to the complex/police), it probably wouldn't reach the owner. Would I be unreasonable to give the money to my friend who is raising money to support a charity?

Next time I will take a picture of the bloody envelope. It said hallmark on the back for goodness sake.

Im defo thinking prostitute!!!

bubblegumunicorn · 11/04/2019 05:50

People do that to make sure the room is clean for the next person! So if you’ve pulled back the sheets and found money it means that they didn’t change those sheets it was probably a tip for the cleaning staff if they had actually cleaned the room! 🤢

SchoolOfLife2 · 11/04/2019 07:41

Some posters on here are looking for drama... fgs prostitute!! It could be anything no need to get op worried

Poloshot · 11/04/2019 08:09

You'd be a thief if you did that. Would the television there look better at your house? There's no difference

Ginormoustrawberry · 11/04/2019 08:24

Definitely cancel the cheque OP!

cooksomeeggs · 11/04/2019 09:43

Definitely cancel the cheque OP!

What does that mean?

Anyway, had a lovely message on fb this morning. The owners are to receive their money back as the message I posted prompted them to ring up again. Happy ending :)

Wow, I am definitely undertipping my cleaner!

Great news OP. The owners/escort/cleaner have got their gift/wages/tip at last!

There isn't a TV here...

@thecatsthecats I didn't think to ask if it was for services rendered. Grin

Great update OP. Glad the money is on its way back to its owner. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

cooksomeeggs · 11/04/2019 10:40

Gazelda thanks!!

Oh good, a happy ending,
everyone can stop telling OP not to take the money as it's not hers now

ralfeesmum · 11/04/2019 10:59

Hand it in and get an official receipt of some kind.

Ginormoustrawberry · 11/04/2019 12:06

cooksomeggs

‘Cancel the cheque’ was reference to an old MN thread (it may even be in classics) where many many many posters didn’t RTFT - much like this one.

Glad the money is finding it’s way home.

EllenMP · 11/04/2019 14:15

I don't know why you would say it won't get back to the owner. It sounds like you and your husband are looking for an excuse not to do the right thing. Hand it in to the property owner, who can easily contact the person in the property before you.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 11/04/2019 14:31

Oh piss of @EllenMP how has MN been invaded by these people recently. There are almost 200 comments!! Seriously!

FoxSquadKitten · 11/04/2019 14:59

Ha ha and it still goes on....😂 RTFT

Thanks ralfeesmum and Ellen I'm sure OP will do just that 🤣

cooksomeeggs · 11/04/2019 15:09

@Ginormoustrawberry 😂, thank you!! I shall check that thread out.

Y'know, you're right @EllenMP I think I might go to highest mountain I can find, hold the money in my outstretched hand and let the wind take it. Then it belongs to everyone and no one.

Man, this thread is trippy Confused

NunoGoncalves · 11/04/2019 18:44

Burn the cash

Sassenach85 · 11/04/2019 18:51

Haven't read the full thread but ... has anyone mentioned birthday money?? If I get money in my birthday cards I use one of the envelopes to put the whole collection in. That envelope would likely be a hallmark envelope. It would also simply have my first name on the front as it had contained a birthday card.

whyamievenamazeddotcom · 11/04/2019 23:37

Hand it in and get a receipt the hotel will have details of who previously used the room it’s possible it could be few W holiday makers back.

I once had the police call me someone had handed in my purse complete with all my cash in it restored my faith I can tell you !

Raspberrytruffle · 12/04/2019 00:39

It's not your money to give, hand it in to the police or reception.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 12/04/2019 01:01

They will assume the cleaner found and kept it. If you hand it in it won’t ever get to it’s “owner”
