To ask what makes you happy

Feeling a little down most days :( I want to try and do some things each day to make myself feel happy but I never know what I can do and before it's too late I'm back feeling demotivated and miserable again... I would really appreciate some ideas of quick things I can do each day that might make me happy. I'm thinking If I write them down then do one per day I might end up being the happiest fucker alive!

Buddy statue = nudey statue! Think Michelangelo's David Wink

Clownfish absolutely... it's taken me 50 years to come to that realisation, with the help of mindfulness to appreciate the here and now and stop worrying about stuff that never happened.
Also;
Clean sheets
Good coffee
My dog lying on my feet on weekends
My teenagers when they are in a good mood
Comedy videos of my favourite comedians on YouTube
Feeling good at my job
Spending time with friends

I have to add that Citalopram also helped my menopausal anxiety hugely meaning that I am able to do more self help stuff. Wink

Walking my dog - even when it is raining. I am currently not walking him twice a day (it is complicated and he is getting walks just not with me) which is making me a bit down.
I am also homeless and living with my parents, freshly divorced and struggling to fulfil my work / parenting commitments but it is the lack of dog walks that are getting to me!

Mrscaindingle I second thecitalopram! Treating my depression has changed my life!
What a lovely thread. Very uplifting.
It is the simple things that make the most difference.
Nobody said the expensive car or the 4 bed detatched house or the designer wardrobe.
For me

  • playing music
  • my dog
-wine with friends
  • warm bed and electric blanket
-the high I get at work when I have helped someone and made a connection
  • a good book
  • my adorable husband.

I haven’t read the thread so apologies if this has been mentioned but have you tried the 3 good things app?its very simple and just prompts you to reflect on 3 good things that have happened during each day. It really helped me to recognise what is already good in my life.

A long bike ride
My cat on My lap
Watching a good series
Baking (not cake, I can't eat it now 🙄)
Talking to Mum on the phone
Gardening
My daughter being happy. That's not often enough.

chocolateaddiction · 29/04/2019 19:44

They say a mother is as happy as her saddest child. I think that is true in some ways too. (not that we all a sad child or anything, but the point of it is true)

Gin96 · 29/04/2019 19:55

Going for long walks with my dogs, riding my horse, spending time with family, having a glass of wine and giggle with friends, sitting in the garden on a warm sunny day, watching a funny film, I even enjoy going to work some days 😊
