AIBU to ask you for mooncup advice

I want to try one, I basically just want tips / advice. Only reason I haven't got one already is because I'm so paranoid about it randomly falling out or getting lost some how. Did you use one? What brand? Any things I need to know before buying one?

I swim with one. Never had an issue

Bohbell · 07/04/2019 22:22

I use one. Am getting on ok. The rim on mine makes it a bit difficult to take out at times and i would not manage with it if i had to change in a public toilet but all in all the health, money and environmental benefits outweigh the bad bits by a mile.

Bohbell · 07/04/2019 22:24

Mine is the organicup one but i feel i should have got the smaller size despite the fact i have had dcs.

Jent13c · 07/04/2019 22:31

I used a moon cup a while ago but never worked for me. After having my baby I just bought the cheapest one on Amazon (duchess cup I think? Pack of 2) and its changed my life. It takes at least 2 cycles to get used to it and i often wear a pad as back up. First 2 days i have to change every 4ish hours roughly but then I can change first thing in morning/last thing at night. Going from having to change tampons every 2 hours that is the absolute dream.

FaithInfinity · 07/04/2019 22:35

Try this quiz to decide which one is right for you. I’ve had Mooncups before and I switched to an organicup which is better for me. I have endometriosis with a heavy flow, I’m much happier using a cup and my cramps aren’t as bad generally.

Stealthtoast · 07/04/2019 22:39

Has anyone tried the tulip cup? I'm considering switching to a cup and was thinking the valve would be a good idea

Saltisford · 07/04/2019 22:42

I posted about this earlier on another thread about tampons - I bought a mooncup years ago and tried it twice. Both times it drifted up so far that I couldn’t retrieve it. It had kind of suctioned itself somewhere and my husband had to investigate to retrieve it! He was not impressed, threw it in the bin and banned me from using it ever again due to the trauma LOL! I have never heard of anyone else having this problem though? I liked the idea of it but it wasn’t practical for me!!

The protective underwear is great worn in conjunction on heavy days and on their own on light ones

StubbleTurnips · 07/04/2019 23:09

Fleurcup here.
It’s awesome.

There’s a site for which may suit you: putacupinit.com/quiz/

Crashing for advice, I have one from amazon, cannot for the life of me remember the name, fleur cup sounds familiar. I have had it about 6 months, it's great on lighter days, can wear it all say, no problem, I just watched a few YouTube videos for folds etc. But, first two days, it leaks, all the time. I'm really heavy, it'll be full after about 3 hrs on the first day, but I just can't seem to get it to work. It's driving me mad, as for about 2 days after it's great.

Ambi · 07/04/2019 23:26

I had my mooncup for about 12 years, brilliant invention. It took a few cycles to get on with it but I'd never go back to tampons. I have less period pain with it oddly. I have a heavy day or two to start so will also use pads in case of leaks but rarely need them. I've switched to a Lunette and it's just as good. I'd recommend them to anyone.

Mosschopz · 07/04/2019 23:29

I have a Mooncup and I’d agree with their claim that it can take a few cycles to get used to it. My cycles are becoming a bit peri-menopausal and I can have very heavy days and for that reason I like it as you can wear it longer than tampons. That said, when I take it out to clean and reinsert I do feel I need an extra hand and it is nigh-on impossible to manage it in a cubicle without a basin on a heavy day without emerging looking like you’ve killed someone.

Doorway · 07/04/2019 23:30

I can never get the bloody thing out. That’s the only bad bit about it.

bbcessex · 07/04/2019 23:41

I have very heeavy, irregular periods and have used a ‘Diva Cup’ for three years.

I love it and would never willingly go back to the Lillets super extra plus that we’re the only option for me before.

I’ve had the same actual one for three years.. I don’t think it took too long to get used to. It’s really comfortable. Doesn’t leak. It’s actually quite weirdly gratifying to empty out when it’s completely full every 2-3 hours on a hideous day as I get to feel “see - told you I was suffering”!!!

super easy to use & empty at work - no need to rinse before reinserting if you’re not able to.

Fingers do get a bit bloody from rummaging though, so make sure there’s loo roll in the cubicle to wipe on before Washing hands.

I bought a Ruby Cup from

www.earthwisegirlsuk.co.uk/

It has loads of different ones so you can compare but I wasn't sure really what to base the decision on.
I chose that brand purely because they come in nice colours and donate one to a teenaged girl in Kenya for each one sold.

It was good, and better than the mooncup which i'd had previously and been happy with.

Apparently there is now one with a valve at the bottom for emptying during the day.

Tbh I came to prefer reusable pads which are not as gross as they sound and in fact beautifully comfortable. Same website sells those in all brands it's worth checking out (I don't work for them!)

somewh3reanywhere · 08/04/2019 00:27

I've been using a Mooncup for years. The good thing about them is you can have a "dry run" so to speak to practice putting it in and removing it. First time it took me about half an hour to get it out! It got easier.

However, my first one was the smaller size. It was fine but after years of using it it started to leak. So I decided to get a new one. As I was over 30 I went for the larger size (I have no kids). This one is a bit more difficult to insert and can be a bit hurty. So I'm wondering if I should try a different brand now.

Keeg · 08/04/2019 11:36

I never find it’s possible to really drift up or go so high it’s an issue. Tbh if you squat/ semi-squat with one foot on the toilet and bear down you should nearly be able to reach/ nearly reach your cervix, let alone a few inches below. Try this with no mooncup, it’ll feel like the end of your nose. Maybe just try to get used to your body and it’ll help the anxiety? It’s totally the wrong shape to actually suction a cervix, which is smaller. It’ll be a seal with the outer walls of your vaginal only. Either get a finger in the rim, or squeeze the bottom into a fold to break the seal. I don’t like the feeling of just pulling the stem
