To not understand how my parents can live in a grotty house?

My parents moved houses soon after I moved out. They bought a pretty big victorian cottage type thing. This was 20 years ago.

They have three showers. They are all broken. They have no carpet on the stairs or sitting room. A hole in the roof. Dishwasher broke ten years ago. Overgrown garden.

wtf!

These are two highly educated professionals. They go about their normal lives then return to the wreck.

They have no debts or mortgate but save for retirement and take multiple holidays a year

Classic bohemians? How do they wash selves if showers all broken.

Is it dirty or do they just fail to fix broken stuff? Lazy? Have you offered to replace the dishwasher (not that you should, just wonder what they’d say)

I'm clever and have a spotless house so that theory is a load of shit Grin

Are their names Giles and Mary?

holeyrug · 07/04/2019 21:02

They have a bath that they run with about 3 inches of water.

I’ve not offered to pay, but dsis gave them £3,000 for a new carpet and the money disappeared.

Df is always abroad fishing and dmum spends her cash on being immaculately dressed! The opposite to the bloody shack!

My ILs are like this. Bought the house in 1960 and have done nothing since. Except when the heating was condemned and the gas and leccy had to be reinstalled in 2008. Lots of new plastering, and never repainted.

Just not bothered except of course MIL knows she can't invite people back. The children's rooms (all in their 50s) still have their school books in and the girls' bits of clothes because she can't throw anything away. She isn't really a hoarder because too mean to buy much.
