was it to travel to / live in that country, because of a spouse, etc?

Also, do you find it easy? And how are the locals when you speak to them in their language?

I'm trying to get some inspiration to learn a foreign language but I'm not sure which one to choose.

However most actual Germans speak some dialect or idiolect ranging from Bavarian to the cuckoo-clock lunacy of Schwyzerdütsch.

I'm from the northern edge of the Black Forest originally and had problems understanding people in the South of the Black Forest, just a two hour drive away from home. They spoke Alemannic, which is their version of Schwyzerdütsch. Ironically, I understand Schwyzerdütsch a lot better than Alemannic.

When I go home to visit family now, I always speak standard German (Hochdeutsch) for the first day or two. My dialect speaking family always makes fun of this.

The more languages a person knows, the wealthier he is and the better for him. It really opens up many opportunities and doors for you to a better future. You can work for any foreign company, open your own business, quit the international, travel, and make new acquaintances. Especially English is considered as global, and I believe that every self-respecting person should own it. I teach my children from earlier childhood according to capitalization worksheets to know English. Indeed, it is difficult sometimes? But we plan to move, and they will need this knowledge.
