What did you get for the money and were you happy with them?

OP posts:
trebless · 06/04/2019 08:09

Only £450. He was putting his prices up though but we booked him at his old rate just in time.

I honestly would have never paid anymore than that. I rarely look at them now. Have a few good ones but the best ones are the ones the guests took!

I also got my friend to video it all on her camcorder.

Doesn't have to be expensive unless you want it to be.

mrssunshinexxx · 06/04/2019 08:13

£500 for 6 hours didn't want them whilst I was getting ready or whilst everyone was eating we had a videographer too for £250 he was training at uni hence price I made my own album online much cheaper

MaroonFlame · 06/04/2019 08:14

It depends on what equipment they’re using and how long they’re working for. I’m a professional myself so I know that if you pay cheap prices, you’re going to get cheap looking photos! I think £1000 is a reasonable starting point for the entire day and some time at the reception. The cost includes travel and a possible stay, their equipment (which could be worth anywhere up to £10,000), the time it takes for them to edit the photos and add them to a USB/email etc. I would pay attention mainly to what camera they are using for the best choice though. Don’t choose anyone that is using below a 30MP camera as they are only beginner ones and most aren’t even full frame, so you won’t get good quality photos! Most professional photographers list what they use on their websites

BillyAndTheSillies · 06/04/2019 08:16

2014, paid £1100 for a photographer that was with us from around 10am until 7 or 8pm as we had some traditional to my husband's family in the reception that the photographer hadn't seen before so asked if he could stay to photograph them.
The package also included all the edited pictures uploaded to Dropbox and we could do whatever we wanted with them.
The photos were great, he did exactly what we wanted. But it was Italy so I'm not sure how much it would have cost back in the U.K.

FrozenMargarita17 · 06/04/2019 08:18

£1400 in 2016. I love my wedding photos

FrozenMargarita17 · 06/04/2019 08:19

Sorry I got an engagement shoot, a whole days photos, a usb, he printed out a couple on the day to give us and also had a leather bound album printed.

trebless · 06/04/2019 08:26

Also don't know about anyone else but I found having a photographer there whilst I was getting ready really stressful! We couldn't get my dress to look right and dd wasn't happy with her hair....and the photgraphee

trebless · 06/04/2019 08:27

Argh 7 month old clicked post whilst I'm feeding him!!

But yeah photographer was snapping away and just adding to the pressure of it.

Obviously if it all goes to plan then it's not an issue. But I wish we could of had him taking pictures on the night rather than the morning

NW2SW · 06/04/2019 08:28

£1200 discounted by a very talented friend. We got all digital copies, complete ownership and three prints. This was last year. I love them, they're really relaxed and he captured some beautiful portraits of our friends and family.

MaidofKent78 · 06/04/2019 08:30

Nothing. Neither of us are fans of wedding photos, of abandoning guests whilst portraits are done.

So we asked friends to share shots they took on the day. I have a friend who is an amateur photographer and she took some as her gift to us. They are lovely. Really captured the relaxed informality of the day

francienolan · 06/04/2019 08:30

$1000 for a friend who takes photos but wasn't normally a wedding photographer to take candids and portraits. Got a Google drive link and editing was extra. This was really cheap but I got what I wanted--lots of varied photos of the people I love. We had a list of portraits that we wanted ahead of time so it didn't take very long.

Princessmushroom · 06/04/2019 08:31

We actually won our wedding photography in a competition but our package was £1,500. It included an engagement shoot, photographer on the day, CDs with TONS of photos, and about 5 printed and mounted.

It’s one area I would not scrimp or rely on guest photos

livelyredjellybean · 06/04/2019 08:31

Around £700 last year. This included a “free” engagement shoot, one photo book, a cd with I think 300 pictures on and a dvd with some short snaps of video he took. I am PAINFULLY disappointed in them, so much so it’s making me cry thinking about them now. My advice is don’t skimp on them - you get what you pay for! We struggled to pick those 300 pictures out of all the ones he took as most were shocking; people with their eyes shut, etc. And only about 2 of my beautiful daughter on our big day 😥😥😥

MrsS92 · 06/04/2019 08:34

It was about £1000 in August. The photographer and his wife were there whilst I was getting ready, then obviously for the church, and until our first dance.
I didn’t want many posed photos, and he captured the day really well.

AriadnePersephoneCloud · 06/04/2019 08:36

£300, start up photographer. Didn't love the group shots but the individual shots are still some of my favourite photos ever. Really gorgeous. Didn't have anything printed just the whole lot on CD. Also no photos at home or after speeches.

VenusStarr · 06/04/2019 08:54

Last year, £1300 for 2 photographers (husband and wife), with us from 9am until 9pm. We had an engagement shoot which was a month or so before the wedding so we could practice being in front of the camera (both not naturals!) got 60 photos on download link for that. We got just over 800 wedding day photos on a USB and a leather-bound album in our wedding colours with 50 of our favourite pictures. Definitely worth the money :)

TrixieFranklin · 06/04/2019 09:28

£2500 last year, 2 photographers, engagement shoot, 10 hours on the day, preview meeting to view all photos, all photos (about 1,0000) retouched and on a USB, beautiful photo album with 100 photos in, 2 framed prints of our choice, online album for guests plus a free newborn shoot and 1 print from that.

CarlGrimesMissingEye · 06/04/2019 14:50

£1500. Was there from getting ready until well into the reception after first dance. Had 2 togs (actually 4 as he had 2 trainees with him
But that was luck), photo album for us, print in frame for parents of the bride and groom, photos in disc. Also, he had a connection with the venue so they did loads of extra coordination bits for us. This was 8 years ago

HeavensToTenby · 06/04/2019 15:12

We paid about £1200 2 years ago, but still haven't ordered our wedding album as I really don't like the photos very much. They're not bad-bad - ie, they're in focus, he's got a few nice shots of my bridesmaids - but with hindsight, we shouldn't have gone with someone who made such a big deal about his "honest reportage style". I should have guessed when he flounced that he'd only take 5 posed groups and the rest would be up to him. He was not kind to some of the guests and the bride! Lots of double chins, unflattering light, no gentle guidance about better angles, particularly in the important portraits of the two of us. He also seemed to think a friend's wife was DH's sister as there are 8 photos of her, and none of either of my aunties, my godmother or my college friends, despite ushers guiding him. He hasn't even been in touch to ask why we haven't ordered any photos.

TL;DR Beware the photographer who treats your wedding as his own documentary portrait project, instead of focusing his best efforts on making you all look as gorgeous as possible and ticking off key relatives.

Argh. I feel better for getting that off my chest.

cloudymelonade · 06/04/2019 15:24

£1800, full day of photography, ended up with 556 images and they are stunning.
Came presented on a USB stick in a beautiful box with a set of prints.

PeachesandPie · 06/04/2019 15:30

Last year, around £1,200. Photographer was there from about 9am-5pm on the first day for the service etc. then from 5-9pm on the second for our party. We have around 800 beautifully edited photographs which we can download and do with as we wish and share with friends and family to download at no cost. Worth every penny.

Snowflake9 · 06/04/2019 15:35

18 months ago - £900

There one hour before church, all the way through to last dance.

All photos on a USB
Printed photo book album
About 20 different sized prints

All photos available to download one week after wedding.

Our photographer was amazing and we were so happy with the result.

Snowflake9 · 06/04/2019 15:36

*40 different sized prints. Had about 700 photos in total. We did very few posed shots and mainly asked to have candid shots.

SachaStark · 06/04/2019 15:44

We married two years ago, and didn't have a photographer at all. I just didn't see the point in spending so much money to miss out on our own wedding reception for hours on end!

Besides, everybody has a decent camera phone now. All told, after all our guests posted on social media (plus three of my friends brought their own vintage cameras for the fun of it), we have over 1,000 photos from our wedding. And the quality is really good, some of them are sooo beautiful and natural, and I didn't have to do any posing at all!

I would not hesitate to recommend skipping a photographer if you are worried about the cost.

HotChocLit · 06/04/2019 16:20

200 for few hours on digital. There years ago
