To call the bloody police? 😡

DH and I live on a nice street (mid sized terraced houses) walking distance to a very nice city centre. Been here 3 years no issue.

It’s not far from a uni but has never been a ‘student area’ very much professionals. Last summer two houses (next to us and opposite us) sold to landlords... they’ve rented to bloody students!!!! Who have in the last week kept us up till 3am twice.

There’s been some big event on today (Easter break starting) and I’m laid in bed now listening to the loudest, crap music (they’re music students and the stuff they listen to is weird heavy bass that vibrates through the walls 😡) they’re shouting, there’s students swearing and screaming in the street.

I was banging on their door at 2am last week as DH was very unwell and trying to sleep but they don’t answer! I’ve already had enough tonight! I know I can’t call the police until 11 but I’m tempted to do it at 11:05!

😒 It’s a professional street. The woman on the other other side of us has small children. Screaming, swearing ... not acceptable behaviour from immature adults! (I’m 26 myself so only a couple of years older).

Wish they’d just bloody clear off, or start behaving appropriately. DH and I just finished redecorating our home before they moved in and doesn’t make financial sense to move. I get that terrace houses mean some noise, we never complain when kids next door cry...etc. But loud parties until the early hours?!?!! FFS

Call Environmental health at the council. If theyre not too busy theyll send someone round. They'll get you to complete a noise log- times and type of noise.
They can confiscate whatever is making the noise- for music fans that means their speakers etc so they might take that seriously.

PippilottaLongstocking · 05/04/2019 21:44

Definitely call the police, every time

moreismore · 05/04/2019 21:44

Report to the uni and the landlord

formerbabe · 05/04/2019 21:45

I'd be absolutely amazed if the police dealt with this. I called them once over a noise issue and they said I should call the council.

Bibijayne · 05/04/2019 21:46

Call the police, every time. Also report to environmental health. But the police logs will help indicate the problem.

Also worth reporting to their letting agent/ landlord.

YouTheCat · 05/04/2019 21:46

Report them to the university student liaison people.

Cryalot2 · 05/04/2019 21:46
Flowers I would keep a detailed log and then present to council and police .
StoneofDestiny · 05/04/2019 21:47

Call council and landlord. Get neighbours involved

Passthewinebottle · 05/04/2019 21:48

Definitely report. We had nuisance neighbours like this when my youngest was a baby & it was horrendous 😩

ILoveMaxiBondi · 05/04/2019 21:48

Call the university. In fact video it on your phone and send it to the university.

Undies1990 · 05/04/2019 21:50

The police won't help. Sorry. It's a council matter - environmental health noise nuisance team

maccaroni · 05/04/2019 21:50

Report to the uni. They will want to keep local residents on side.

Fiveredbricks · 05/04/2019 21:53

Cause all hell for them. We used to have to do that. We'd end up almost banging their door down at 7am every week day after just for the fun of it "sorry to bither you, can I borrow a cup of sugar/did you see the accident in the road lastnight/have you got my missing parcel"... Alongside my husband going around at 2am and causing bloody murder etc. We'd only ever have to do that once, every year, given the fact he was almost 6ft, 20st of muscle and stock, and tattooed from the neck down 😁

One used to leave his fag ends outside the block of flats entrance so I bagged them all up and after 2 weeks I soaked them and smushed them in to his car vents, under his front door and even in his keyhole. Funnily enough the smoking outside the front door stopped 😂

Give as good as you get in every way. Make their lives hell. As soon as their studying is affected they'll stop. Also report them. Even private student housing is let through the Uni and the uni is responsible for keeping them in line too as they represent them.

Tavannach · 05/04/2019 21:53

Environmental health at the council. In our area we have a dedicated 24 hour noise team who go out and warn people, and will return to confiscate equipment if the sound levels go up again after their visit. It's wonderful.

FredaFox · 05/04/2019 21:54

My boss used to have students next to him in a very nice terraced row in chester, every few years a new lot came and the house was horrific, they reported it all the tumes, as the students reached their 2nd and 3rd year it calmed down just for them to leave and it start again

Try environmental health or your council, the police are too stretched for tgis, at most call 101.

HattieRabbit · 05/04/2019 21:54

I had a feeling that police might not do much! I don’t think uni will do anything at all (I’m actually at the uni mature student- but work FT also).

The council may be a way to go! I’m tempted to go knock on their door now and be like ‘you took the piss the other night - pack it in by 11 or I’ll call the police’.

We literally live a 15 min walk from all the bars/clubs so why can’t they party there?!?!

🙄 I’m very tempted to be up blasting Taylor swift directly through the students connecting walk at 9am tomorrow morning... kids next door won’t mind they’re always up early. But I know that’s just tit for tat and a bad idea!

I'd be playing Slipknot tbh OP... Through heavy bass speakers. Right against the walls.

Chocolateisfab · 05/04/2019 21:57

My underage dc had a wild party at exh house, massive concerns. Mentioned drugs to the police. They were there in minutes...
Maybe an idea.

RoseReally · 05/04/2019 21:58

I had student neighbours when I was renting, the police did come out a couple of times when I called regardinf noise but only because the party had spilled out onto the street. They said if they are in the house they won't do anything. I guess that's when it's a council issue.

GetOffTheRoof · 05/04/2019 21:59

Police
Council EHO
University
Landlords / letting agency

And yes, the University will be interested. Email and copy in all of the above.

Batter the door now though.

Nicknacky · 05/04/2019 22:01

chocolate Lying is a stupid suggestion.

And it’s Friday night. It won’t get them there any quicker.

HattieRabbit · 05/04/2019 22:01

We had two (I can only assume ex lovers) screaming at each other in the street at around 4am after the last party.

Thanks for all the advice. I will follow it up with the council and hope for the best!

Also you can download a free decibel meter app on your phone so you can tell enviro health exactly how loud they are being. Log everything.

Chocolateisfab · 05/04/2019 22:02

Sleep deprivation calls for desperate tactics imo.
