What to do about Nursery photo?

My DD is in her final months of Nursery, in the Preschool room.

In the next few weeks they will be doing preschool “graduation” photos with a cap and gown. Plus they do a class photo of them all.

Every child is issued with one copy of their graduation photo and one copy of the class photo, paid for by the Nursery. We don’t have the option of buying any more like we did with previous Nursery photos as the photos aren’t done by a professional company (this is all I’ve been told not told by who they’re taken).

I am separated from my DDs Dad. He sees her 1 night a week and EOW but has nothing to do with Nursery. I pay the bill, I do all events, I do parents evening. He’s not even had any input in what schools I applied for as when I asked him he said it was my job as DD lives with me. He never picks her up from Nursery and is unlikely to pick her up from school. He however has bought a copy of every photo she’s ever had done at Nursery (we’ve always sorted out payments between us).

I have asked Nursery for a 2nd copy of at least the graduation picture but they’ve said no as it wouldn’t be fair to all those other parents who want a 2nd copy for grandparents or whatever – fair enough I understand. I asked if they would allow me to buy a 2nd copy for her dad so it’s fair they said that the people who do the graduation photos don’t usually sell the photos (assuming it’s some sort of agreement with Nursery that they do the photos for free in exchange for advertising and/or free childcare).

WWYD? I feel awful for her dad, but part of me selfishly thinks “well I pay for it and do everything for it so why shouldn’t I get the last ever “professional” photo?”

Literally just take it into boots or any photo shop, put it on the machine and print out a copy. This really isn't an issue.

HJWT · 05/04/2019 18:49

Do you not have a boots or a max spielmann nearby you could probably get 10 copy's for £5

MerlinsScarf · 05/04/2019 18:54

Do get written permission from the photographer (or nursery if relevant?) if possible if you'll be handing it over in a shop. Our wedding photos were issued on CD with permission to print them (we paid the photographer for this) and Boots asked to see proof re: copyright each time.

There is no actual graduation ceremony or anything, they literally just take the photos of them in a cap and gown.

We repeat: What's the actual problem? A shop will scan it an print a copy. Drama llama.

sweetmolly · 06/04/2019 12:21

I actually don't think YABU, OP. Yes you can scan it or go to a shop but families do come in all shapes and sizes now and it's not uncommon for a child to have two houses.

rainbowunicorn · 06/04/2019 12:26

Bloody hell talk about making your life difficult just take to a shop and get a copy done.

The reason shes being unreasonable isnt because of the shapecof her family though its the drama she is making of it.

My parents split over 30 years ago even and never spoke, if they had to talk it was done at full volume over a half hour peripd ie a full scale blazing row. And even they managed to work out how easy it was to get things copied etc if the school only provided one copy.

They didnt go oh i feel sorry for the ex , my mum justvroutinely provitely got a copy made

OKBobble · 06/04/2019 14:28

Will he even want such a naff photo?
