AIBU to use my phone for so many things

My "phone" is in my hand almost constantly. It's my:

newspaper
magazine
book / library service
messaging service
email service
booking system - for everything from Dr appointments to haircuts to cinema tickets
cookbook / recipe folder
television / streaming device
music library
diary / calendar
camera
photo album
map
public transport guide
shop - for everything from food to gifts to flowers to parking permits
radio
period tracker
alarm clock
bank account access
paperwork retrieval system
language coach
calculator
fitness tracker
and sometimes I even use it to call people.

I'm just about the download the Wunderlist app, as I am finding it impossible to work with paper To-Do lists, while everything else is digital. But this feels like the final nail in the coffin - and that my kids are never going to see me without the blasted thing in my hands ever again. I rather lose the moral high ground when telling them to get off their phones, when mine is superglued to my hand...

In reality they do see me reading actual books / journals most days. And I have made a rule to plug it in in the kitchen overnight, not the bedroom.

So am I U to use my phone so much? My defence is that I don't go on any social media (except FB occasionally - no Insta, Snap etc) and I never play games on it, so it's all "good" use - music, books, news, radio, communication. But does that actually make a difference?

If yabu I am too- as are most people I know. My phone is essential and my life is organised by it.

HOWEVER what I do hate is when people are with other people - real life , there in front of them- and they still use their phone constantly. You don't need to check your appointments and books and emails etc when you are with others- it's plain old rude and becoming more and more common. I have a friend who I no longer see because as she's speaking to me she is scrolling in her phone. It's ignorant and thoughtless .

yes my phone use is so bad. I've actually left it at home today deliberately - and it feels quite nice!

YANBU. This is exactly what it was invented for.

They're fully developed computers that can be carried around in the pocket so why shouldn't you use it to its full potential? There are times when I'm using my phone for 8/10 hours a day using all the functions you mentioned and more but there are also times when I don't pick it up for days on end and sometimes up to a week. Its about finding balance between using the device and interacting face-to-face with other humans and nature around you.

It's not a way of life I recognise but suspect that 99.99% of posters will agree with you.

I have a £15 PAYG that does nothing other than make calls and texts and is usually uncharged. It's used at most once a month or so, when it's charged up in case I need to make a call. Someone bought it for me when I ended up in hospital for a couple of months about four years ago and there were no bedside phones. It's had about £40 put on it in those four years.

I guess it's proof, if I needed any, that I am really antediluvian lol
