CF eBay buyer

Name changed as this might be outing if the buyer is on MN...

AIBU? Might need some perspective.

Sold something on eBay. Thought the buyer got rather a good deal but happy for it to go to use rather than throwing the item out.

Several days after she gets it she she it's broken and she wants a refund. Part of its fine so I offered a partial refund. She refuses.

So it's going to cost me to have it sent back to me. I'll be out of pocket. As far as i know she broke them or changed her mind and knew if they were broken she gets a refund . I even have to refund her postage. I'm massively of pocket.

Maybe just need a rant that trying not to be so wasteful is proving so expensive.

Are you saying that she is saying it arrived broken or are you saying that you think she broke it?

If it arrived broken then why is she being cheeky?

The seller assumes responsibility until the item arrives, No?

I always thought that was how it worked?

Unfortunately there are arsehole buyers. I've contacted sellers a few times when on the rare occasion things have gone missing in the post (or when I bought lipsticks classified as sealed, new, undamaged etc that had clearly been opened and used in whatever shop they came from. Envy ) But if it arrives (even if it's late) and it's fine, great.

That reminds me I need to go and leave feedback for the stuff I've bought recently.

Fridasrage · 04/04/2019 03:34

It's quite a common ebay scam.

Ebay has terrible seller protections so people can do this and the seller is forced to refund the item.

Iv had a buyer give me negative feedback saying the postage was too high. But postage charges were in the details so she didn't have to buy it.

I remember what happened with mine now! I sent her a pair of second hand shoes which she claimed were bad quality (they were from Karen Millen!) and demanded a refund. I said fine as long as you send the shoes back. She point blank refused and said I want the refund FIRST. Well I stood my ground and we went back and forth only for her to open a dispute and eBay went and immediately debuted the funds back from my account! So I lost the money AND she somehow still kept the shoes Hmm Silly cow.

Thanks for reassuring me I'm not alone!

She's saying 2 of the 3 lanterns broke during transit. I really doubt that given:
1 she's taken nearly a week to report it/ say anything.
2 she'd completely unpacked them, why remove all the packaging from broken glass? Just keep it all together.
3 she's lying about how much packaging there was, they were very diligently packed, it's glass I'm not daft. Labels yo as glass and fragile as well.
4 she asked questions in the auction suggesting she had hadn't really decided and she needed them sooner. She's clearly changed her mind or they didn't arrive soon enough.
5 she's very clear she knows she gets a full refund for broken goods and keeps telling me so. She won't pay for the one that's not broken.

she's just been rude throughout the whole thing so I was wondering if I just dislike her and am being a bit unreasonable.

My issue now is I've got a much more expensive glass item listed. Do I cancel it? Does anyone know which courier companies insurer glass? I sent the lanterns by Hermes and apparently they don't.

If you don't plan on using Ebay anymore OP I'd just ignore her- who cares. She'll open a case against you, they may well rule in her favour and give the refund (they can take it via PayPal I believe) but I doubt they can take extra money for her return postage -Or open a case against her. Either way she'll have a long wait. Give her negative feedback stating why, and make sure you block her from buying from you again (if you stay on Ebay)

If not refund her as planned and claim the damages from royal mail, it's fairly easy just a bit faffy. Better than nothing!

Glass item...via Hermes....ahhhhhh! OP!

DontCallMeShitley · 04/04/2019 14:46

Special Delivery for glass, although am not sure you will be covered for it by anyone.

I once sold a very old glass light shade, the buyer paid postage but in the end I delivered it by hand as I was too scared of it being broken in transit, even double boxed. He was very grateful when he got it as he had already bought 3 and all had arrived smashed.

You are not supposed to post broken glass, however in your position I would insist on it being returned. Chances are you will get a red dot anyway, what is her feedback left for others like? Might be reportable if she has done it a lot. I have contacted other sellers in the past about these arsehole buyers to see what happened and found that they have reported them to Ebay, as I have.

You can ride it out and try to have the FB removed (if you word it right you can sometimes) or if that fails then leave a measured response underneath. What is your feedback like OP?

Sell glass items as collection only or elsewhere and avoid posting.

I won't sell on eBay now. If it doesn't go on the local Facebook site it just goes to charity shop

Villanellesproudmum · 28/06/2019 20:13

I know this is a few months old but I’ve just sold an item on EBay, brand new with tags size 14, exact measurements inc in listings, she has complained it doesn’t fit and asked for a refund, eBay have authorised it. That’s fine when it comes back I’ll refund as long as it’s in the same condition.

She has asked for her return postage to be refunded, I note on her feedback to sellers she regularly orders clothes, complains they are too small and returns. I’m going to refuse to refund her postage costs. Seems fair right?

ZazuMoon · 28/06/2019 20:30

Oh I just had a thread on this where the buyer lied and made various things up with a high value item I sold. PayPal did side with me in the dispute, oddly, but it put me off selling or buying on eBay from the time being and I had been doing so for 15 years almost!

Villanellesproudmum · 28/06/2019 21:05

Oh don’t say that, I’ve just started selling for the first time in years, last time I sold sellers could also leave negative, neutral feedback, it now seems very one sided! I’ve sold five items in the last few days and this is the first item and this has happened so doesn’t inspire confidence.
