Was driving up the road earlier and made a right turn onto another street.

When I turned into the street, I very nearly hit a cyclist who was riding down the middle of the road (pretty much on the white line).

He got very aggressive throwing his arms up and shouting/ calling me a bitch etc... I went to pull over but he rode off!

I did look before I turned but because of the location of the buildings I hadn't seen him further up the road, riding down towards the junction. By the time I'd turned, he just appeared.

Surely cyclists should not be in the centre of the road?! I would not have nearly hit him if he'd been at the side of the road like normal!

Thanks all: that's what I thought: I was driving with due care and attention and managed to slam my brakes on as the child shot off the dropped kerb into the road and the only damage was to my nerves, but it did rather shake me.
So it wasn't unreasonable of me to expect him to stop.... whereas if the little idiot had been on the carriageway I would have expected to wait until after he had gone across the entrance to the road.
I did give him rather a telling off... but I don't know whether it will have scared him enough to stop him doing it again.

5 people today are killed by drivers, 5 people yesterday & 5 people tomorrow, dead due to drivers. When you get inside a car don’t use your phone, smoke, or get distracted as you could really easily kill another human - someone’s loved one

Drive as if it was your own loved one and if you make the wrong choice - there dead

"I did look before I turned but because of the location of the buildings I hadn't seen him further up the road, riding down towards the junction."

It doesn't matter what the cyclist's position was. There could have been anything on your side of the road - a child or someone fallen over, a massive pothole etc. You have to be aware what is on the road before you turn. So you are at fault, 100%. The cyclist may also have been at fault but we can't be sure.

@ivykaty44 thanks for posting that, that's the part of the code I am very aware of but couldn't tell you the section.

As drivers we all need to be aware of pedestrians who are now glued to mobile screens and have ear phones in - they have no awareness of their surroundings so we have to be extra careful.

There's one particular t junction near me when I'm going major to minor that I always take at a crawl - people always step out without looking!

I'm training my Bikeability students to do all their checks and their lifesaver look because the number of quiet electric vehicles is increasing and they can't be heard.
