To think that schools and NHS are not accountable for knife crime?

Of course if kids are weilding kives into school then schools need to report it...not sure how the nhs are responsible except for treating stab wounds.

Aibu to think the government is accountable and austerity? What about policing our streets properly? 20, 000 police laid off? No coincidence knife crime is on the up.

It’s possibly why it’s sometimes hard to fit in the teaching of lessons
I can only imagine. Sad
There are to many cases to report, but it is neglect, I don't know how feckless parents get away with it.

The government need to give the police more money, It is similar in Ireland the amount of social crime has rocketed too, government saving money by reducing Garda and closing stations, There is very little police presence in the areas, along with petty sentences handed down by judges, it all seems like a lost cause.

Instead of giving money to professionals and blaming the poor single overworked parents left with the child, how about directly supporting rather than bullying and taking the money and control from the parents to benefit personality disordered professionals?

BecauseYouAreWorthIt · 01/04/2019 19:50

Feckless parents you mean fathers who don't care for their children physically, emotionally or financially or do you mean overworked stressed out (often recovering from DV) single parents juggling a hard life and society doesn't condemn the fathers does it?

I work in the NHS and often I feel I’m expected to be police and social worker as well:DV, FGM, child abuse, elder abuse, self harm are all issues we are expected to act. Politicians just shove the problems they’ve largely created through their policies onto the public sector so they can tick the “we’re doing something about it” box.

IMO knife crime is largely drugs related and a direct result of the Blair governments down grading of cannabis to a class C drug

These professionals will not make anything better, why throw more money and power at them?

This Dr in a professional capacity represented others in his profession. The NHS and GMC do nothing, you think they can solve knife crime?

You think these people in positions of power and trust genuinely want to solve knife crime if you throw money and power at them?

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 01/04/2019 20:01

I agree absolutely op. I work for the NHS in a position that means I'm in schools regularly and dealing with kids and teens most days. We report any safeguarding issues (knives, gang associations, exploitation and much more) constantly, but what is then done with that information is largely out of our hands. Making scapegoats out of other agencies for failing to spot things just feels like a kick in the teeth and is frankly demoralising when we're already stretched to breaking point. How about they properly resource all of our public services and then we can all do our jobs properly.

CountFosco · 01/04/2019 20:07

They haven't explained it well but they are referring to the joined up thinking approach taken in Glasgow that massively cut knife crime.

This. Glasgow started treating violent crime in the same multifaceted way they'd treat a health issue. All the different agencies work together. It has halved violent crime in the city and is really interesting. If the government really does invest in a multi agency approach it should work but it needs a mindset change from all the agencies as well VRU.

ASauvignonADay · 01/04/2019 20:09

Maybe schools and NHS could improve services if they had the FUNDING to improve services? Ditto the police? Instead of constantly being required to do more with even less?

Absolutely agree.

We haven't got the funding to support some of our most vulnerable and at risk students.

QuiQuaiQuod · 01/04/2019 20:21

everyones responsible except parents it seems.

I'm sorry, but don't parents know if knives are missing from the kitchen? or if the kids are oordering them online?
and why do they need to be out in the streets at all hours?

And if a kids excluded the law states they cant be out and about unsupervised.
police numbers/
plenty of police at Westminster and royal things, cos theyre more important than ordinary peasants!

End of the day, parents resdponsilbily.

And I think the Gov should bring back National service.
