Am on the train and someone near me has done a silent and deadly. It is vile! Should I do what I do in my classroom and ask very loudly if someone needs to go to the toilet!

OP posts:
BeanBag7 · 01/04/2019 07:08

Short answer, no.

Livedandlearned · 01/04/2019 07:09

Yes but you must stand at the front of the carriage first.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 01/04/2019 07:10

No one is going to admit to it!

GarthFunkel · 01/04/2019 07:25

Ah like the time I was watching the DC's swimming lesson being irritated by this dad sitting next to me who was shuffling around in his seat into me and bouncing his restless legs around into me The lady on the other side leant over and said 'someone needs the toilet' Grin

RobinHumphries · 01/04/2019 07:39

Maybe that person has a stoma and can’t help it

Bezalelle · 01/04/2019 07:50

Only on MN ^ Hmm

Reddragonqueen · 01/04/2019 07:54

Please be kind, don't embarrass someone like that

donajimena · 01/04/2019 07:56

I thought my colleague had dropped his guts the other day. It turns out it was his sausage mcmuffin.

Stinkytoe · 01/04/2019 08:00

Smelly wind doesn’t automatically mean someone needs the loo

tympanic · 01/04/2019 08:00

Do it! I dare you! And use your best shrill schoolmarm voice when you do!

Neptunesgiraffe · 01/04/2019 08:02

Haha! I think people will think you did it, if you draw attention to it. As they used to say at my school, "the one that smelt it, dealt it!"

InfiniteCurve · 01/04/2019 08:10

No,that's just mean.
Getting older seems to have screwed my digestion and the balance between not enough fibre/ too much has got tricky - result, sometimes problems such as you describe, despite my best efforts.
I know it's horrible,I hate it myself,I'm trying to fix it.Having public attention drawn to it would be......no,just don't.
It's not deliberate and it's not funny - why mention it?

TapasForTwo · 01/04/2019 08:13

It's April fool's day. The OP is a fool Grin

SimonJT · 01/04/2019 08:14

Are you on the central line by any chance?!

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 01/04/2019 08:16

Its worrying thaf you embarress the children you teach in such away.

Even more embarressing that you'd consider doing it on the train

GROW UP

TapasForTwo · 01/04/2019 08:22

"Its worrying that you embarrass the children you teach in such away."

I agree. What a horrible thing to do Hmm

BlueMerchant · 01/04/2019 08:24

Tempting...but no.Grin
We do not know circumstances.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 01/04/2019 08:26

Its worrying that you embarrass the children you teach in such away.

Agreed.

PregnantSea · 01/04/2019 08:28

I would think you were covering your own tracks if you made such a song and dance about it...

Can you fart back in retaliation? Just don't push too hard...

pollyhampton · 01/04/2019 08:28

As someone with a new stoma I would be mortified. I'm still struggling to get used to it and this sort of post makes me not want to leave the house.

EleanorOalike · 01/04/2019 08:30

Please don’t. I know three people with stoma bags, two adults who had cancer and a young child who has a disability and this would be a horrible, insensitive thing to do to them. They can’t help the odd smell escaping and all three are very self conscious about it.

Science9 · 01/04/2019 08:36

Should I do what I do in my classroom and ask very loudly if someone needs to go to the toilet!

Do you really do this in your classroom? Embarrassing children like that really unkind. Some people cannot help it

Gwenhwyfar · 01/04/2019 08:40

Why would you embarrass someone about an unavoidable human function. Yes, I've learnt from MN that the rest of you can control it - I can't.

Livingoncake · 01/04/2019 09:05

Please don’t. As PPs have mentioned, some people really can’t help it and are embarrassed enough.

Also, Miss Manners (or is it Emily Post? One of the old-school etiquette mavens, anyway) states that the correct way to behave when someone has obviously passed wind is to simply carry on as if it hasn’t happened. Just ignore it entirely. When kids in my class moan about someone’s lingering fart smell, I tell them it’s bad manners to draw attention to it and to get on with their work.

Farts are part of life. Especially on public transport.

CoffeeRunner · 01/04/2019 09:08

You do that in your classroom?

I wouldn’t want you anywhere near my child TBH. How humiliating!
