North East contestants for the Great British Menu... From Huddersfield, Harrogate and London. It's a fucking joke.

Well yes, Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds are in the North, but this thread began with an observation about the definition of the NE on GBM. Liverpool and Manchester are in the NW. I would suggest introducing a Yorkshire category for the competition. (Sadly, I have to note that it seems to me there are not that many fine dining options in the NE though)

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/04/2019 17:59

Plenty of fine dining in the NE. Within an hour of me, there are at least a dozen fantastic fine dining places to eat. And there will be many I haven't heard of too.

@Buster72 yeah to go to uni at Sunderland. Still have strong ties to the town.

I don't really have the cash to eat out often but there are plenty of good places to eat.

Well I'm sure the Indian takeaway in Sunderland is wonderful but the best eateries are not in north east England.
Proves the point a chef from the NE with great talent will go elsewhere for employment.

BeanBag7 · 01/04/2019 19:32

@fluffyears there is a separate category of "Scotland", separate from north east or north west (england)

Fluffyears · 01/04/2019 19:41

@beanbag7 yes there is but tee just get ignored too.

TheSilveryPussycat · 01/04/2019 21:25

I agree there are plenty of good restaurants. But the chefs tend not to use foams, liquid nitrogen, strange foraged herbs etc. Mind you, the only Michelin restaurant I've ever been to is The Kitchen in Edinburgh. It was OK, but it turns out I don't really like the kind of food they served. Just as I don't fancy eating much of the food on GBM. Maybe I'm a food philistine...

Yes, but are there any fame hungry arses who would want to be on that program? They're not going to get Kenny Atkinson are they?

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/04/2019 21:44

I've stopped watching. I think the best dishes should go through not the chef with the highest total.
