To be precious with my stroller

My mil is coming to mind my baby and ds7 for a night so we can attend a wedding.
Whilst we appreciate mil helping us so we can attend I'm wondering if I would be unreasonable to buy a small stroller for her to use whilst we're away. I have a good stroller which was expensive (bugaboo) and it's only a year old but she allows my older dc who's 7 sit in it and stand on the wheels of it. I've told ds he is too old for the stroller and he is not to stand on the wheels of it but he told me mil told him he had to the last time they were out. I don't want my stroller damaged as I have a few years left with it and also I don't think it's safe ds standing on the wheels whilst mil pushes. Ds is a good walker will walk beside her as he does with me. She also allowed him sit in my babies car seat a few months ago as he was playing. I told her I didn't want him sitting in a car seat designed for a babies weight and I didn't want the seat not to be safe in the event of a car accident. She wasn't happy about me saying this to her hence why I'm reluctant to go into the whole thing again with the buggy. Should I just buy a cheap stroller for her use? DH thinks it's a waste of money, he understands why I don't want my stroller damaged but when it comes to talking to his mum he forgets. AIBU to be precious about this (I love my stroller but I know if it was damaged we don't have the money to replace) or should I let it go.

Those bugaboos are hardcore. We have one that is now that's 15 years old, been through 4 kids and the kids played with it up until about a year ago. Now it's stored away but it's like one of those old fashioned prams. Ours has been stood on, stepped on, ridden in, jumped on etc. But they are bloody expensive so if you feel safer, I'd get her a cheap buggy to use.

I would definitely buy a cheap one and hide your good one.

I've just bought a cheap/light weight stroller from Asda for our holiday. Going abroad and didn't want the good one to get battered.

I'm struggling to believe that anyone would force a 7 year old to stand on a buggy or to climb into a baby sized car seat.

I suspect your son is not telling the whole truth, and this is a case of your MIL allowing your son to do it , rather than making him do it. So your son needs to stop doing it. It's not appropriate for a 7 year old, and your son is old enough to know he is being naughty to do so even if his gran doesn't stop him/says its OK.

he told me mil told him he had to the last time they were out

Really? I mean really? Did you even check with your MIL that she actually made him do it?

emerald30 · 02/04/2019 12:42

@ReadMyLipss I do believe my son yes. I've no reason to doubt him. Mil can be quiet pushy.

How does your stroller move if someone is standing on the wheels?

GreatDuckCookery · 02/04/2019 12:50

Sorry if you’ve already said but have you asked MIL if/why she made him go on the pram?

LuvSmallDogs · 02/04/2019 13:27

Cheap buggy wise, I can recommend the Hauck Sport. In fact I’m using it over my giant Joovy Caboose (DS2 refuses to utilize the buggy board/seat bit).

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 02/04/2019 13:31

Bugaboos are indestructible so I wouldn’t worry about it.

mrsm43s · 02/04/2019 15:37

But why on earth would your MIL force your 7 year old to climb on a buggy or sit in a baby car seat? That makes absolutely no sense at all.

Whereas your 7 year old taking the opportunity to play around with his baby sibling's equipment, knowing that Mum won't let him, but Granny will tun a blind eye makes perfect sense.

Cutesbabasmummy · 02/04/2019 18:14

If your DS is telling the truth then I wouldn't be letting her babysit! What sort of weirdo makes a 7 year old sit in a baby's car seat?!
