Just watching an old show. Aibu to think that if he were alive today, he would have a bloody field day!

My (catholic) mum's favourite - I grew up watching him, like others on this thread. Shame he wasn't still around for a guest appearance on Father Ted.

Caught some of the tribute on Sat night. The biopic with Aiden Gillen was interesting, but showed that it wasn't just what DA said, it was the way he said it. Hearing an actor recreate the monologues and sketches wasn't the same, they lacked the charisma and twinkle of DA's delivery's.

Agree with others, his show has stood the test of time and he was a v attractive man - never really noticed that before. Will be rewatching on iPlayer later.

I'm also confused about the descending into filth comment - I don't remember that!

He died in 2005 Father Ted ended in 1998.

I loved Dave Allen. I think his 'Funeral Race' sketch was one of the funniest things I've ever seen. (sorry don't know how to do links but it's easy to find on YouTube).

I saw him first, so you can wait until I have descended into filth with him.
I may be some time.

I always think of Father Ted as being much later, almost more recent tv. Can't believe it finished that long ago, now I really do feel old!

Just googled and found an interview with Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle) saying the writers were desperate to have DA in the show, but it never worked out.

I would love to have heard hear Daves views on............
