Is this a weird thing to say to a baby?

DS is 7 months old.
He was smiling at 2 women in a shop. One says "ah look - he has good taste in women!"
The other says
"Nevermind that dummy, I know something else he'd like to suck on!" And they laughed.

What would you make of that? (I wasn't there, he was with my dh).

Yuck!

Weightsandmeasures · 30/03/2019 20:11

I think they meant he'd prefer breastfeeding to his dummy. That's a comment often made. Nothing odd about it.

melissasummerfield · 30/03/2019 20:12

Urgh Angry

IchibanLipstickForMen · 30/03/2019 20:46

Glad I'm not the only one who saw this as a harmless breastfeeding comment/joke!

MatchSetPoint · 30/03/2019 21:01

Yes I think it’s a breastfeeding joke, a bit uncouth but not awful.

SosigDog · 30/03/2019 21:06

The second lady is disgusting for sexualising a child. I’d have called her out on being a paedophile. Absolutely foul.

GPatz · 30/03/2019 21:12

Yeah, I would have thought BF joke, given that the baby was smiling at two women, but still, bit weird to make to stranger.

RomanyQueen1 · 30/03/2019 21:15

I think this is a misunderstanding. I used to hear this alot, and they meant the baby would rather be having a feed.
Not creepy at all.
Wer they middle aged/older, I ask as it was this age group I used to hear say it, and it was usually grandmas.

funinthesun19 · 30/03/2019 21:20

Breastfeeding joke.

I know my baby prefers my nipples to her dummy. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Nowt to do with sexualising a child.

BottleOfJameson · 30/03/2019 21:54

The first woman's remark I wouldn't think twice about the second was very creepy indeed. I'm sure it was just a stupid joke but still really gross.

SosigDog · 30/03/2019 22:10

Who says it’s a breastfeeding joke? They could have meant a clitoris. Disgusting.

IchibanLipstickForMen · 30/03/2019 22:29

@SosigDog oh yeah.. Cause that's much more likely Hmm Confused

FoxSquadKitten · 30/03/2019 22:36

Did they just mean he wanted boob instead? Like maybe presuming he's breastfed?

Yes that's obviously exactly what they meant. It is nothing like a man saying it to a little girl, Jesus.
And SosigDog, really???!!!! 🙄

Claply · 31/03/2019 08:32

Yeah I think it was a breastfeeding reference but the point is that I wasn't there. So it feels like they were referencing their own breasts? Just seems so odd. It wouldn't be the same if a man had said it. But I still didn't like it and it made me uncomfortable hearing they said it. It creeped my dh out too.

CosyAsAToasty · 31/03/2019 08:39

Gross

NoineNoine · 31/03/2019 08:59

Ugh that's so disgusting, what the hell is wrong with some people?

YouBumder · 31/03/2019 09:04

Grim. Probably a misplaced BF joke but how do they knoe he was even BF?

My uncle’s wife repeatedly referred to my son when he was a baby as “sexy”. I thought it was gross. As others said can you imagine a man saying these things about a baby girl.

whiteroseredrose · 31/03/2019 09:07

Just no!

Mopthefloor · 31/03/2019 09:09

So it feels like they were referencing their own breasts?

That’s what I mean, directly after the “good taste in women” comment 🤮

To give them the benefit of the doubt, let’s say it all came out wrong...

GPatz · 31/03/2019 09:35

SosigDo

And you have the cheeky to say that the second woman needs to be called out for sexualising a child. Have a word with yourself.

keenwasalad · 31/03/2019 13:37

Is your DH handsome, OP?

I think maybe it was a gross attempt at flirting 🤮

Claply · 31/03/2019 16:45

keenwasalad

He is good looking. It could have been this. Maybe flirting and it all came out wrong!

MardyMavis · 31/03/2019 17:18

@SosigDog you are fucking vile.

MardyMavis · 31/03/2019 17:20

And op clearly it was a breastfeeding joke why turn it into something sinister?! And flirting with your oh? Ok then 🙄

Amongstthetallgrass · 31/03/2019 17:20

My fil said something similar to my friends son.

Horrible
