eBay. Just made three offers on a buy it now item priced at £19.95. My final offer was £19. I mean seriously, why bother saying you'll accept an offer?!

the seller may not have ebay puts offer facility in as standard now, so if the seller wants 19.95 then thats what he or she wants and does not have to accept your offer

viques · 30/03/2019 18:22

You don't say what your first offer was though!

I can't be arsed with make an offer malarkey. If you are that keen to get the item then bid for it giving your highest bid then walk away from the auction. If you win you win, and possibly at a price below your highest bid, if someone wants it more they win. It's how eBay works.

HarrysOwl · 30/03/2019 18:23

If it's a matter of 95p just use the buy-it-now.

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 30/03/2019 18:23

Why all the drama over less than a quid? Three offers and you ended up at 95p off?

viques · 30/03/2019 18:24

Sorry, my bad, just saw it was a buy it now.

M0reGinPlease · 30/03/2019 18:26

You have the choice when you create the listing as to whether you accept offers or not. My offers were instantly rejected which means the seller has also set an automatic limit below which they won't consider an offer. If they're not willing to accept 95p below the asking price why say they'll consider offers?!

They may not have wanted best offer. I had several items listed as buy it now, and after a few days eBay added the best offer option onto my listings.

Marmalady75 · 30/03/2019 18:34

I hadn’t sold anything for a while on eBay. I used it recently and it automatically added the option to offer without me clicking anything. I didn’t realise until someone made an offer (a very cheeky one at that!). Maybe they didn’t realise?

GayParee · 30/03/2019 18:38

^^ it annoys the pants off me that even if you set a listing to no offers and do not turn on easy pricing after a few days eBay WITHOUT FAIL adds the best offer facility to the listing. If I've got a few things listed I may miss the email telling me it's been switched on so am offer is the first I know if it.

Drives me bonkers

TheClaifeCrier · 30/03/2019 18:41

eBay are sneaky. I hadn't sold anything for a while and when I listed something recently I must have missed the bit where you agree to accept offers because I started to receive them.

I then edited the listing to not receive offers, only to have more offers a few days later. Turns out eBay automatically turns it on after a few days and you have to click somewhere else to turn that setting off as well.

So it's possible the seller didn't actually want to accept offers.

I think eBay has massively gone down hill compared to when I started using it around ten years ago. Items are massively over priced. I've seen second hand toys for more than what you would pay for new on Amazon. I wish there was a decent alternative.

ronswansonstache · 30/03/2019 18:53

The offer thing is relatively new & you have to pay more for a listing if you don't have that option switched on. When I list on eBay using an auction the starting price is the very minimum I'll accept so anyone coming in at offers below that will get rejected. If you want to buy it now try a higher price or place a bid if you want to take your chances on a lower price.

NCforthis2019 · 30/03/2019 19:18

Maybe he didn’t want a lower price then say.... the buy it now price? 🤷🏻‍♀️

M0reGinPlease · 30/03/2019 19:23

They messaged me back- they put t on there intentionally but are only willing to accept 45p below asking price?!

I sell on eBay regularly and unless you go out of your way to untick the best off button it automatically adds it for you. Also when you relist items either yourself or automatically eBay then again adds a best offer. It's a pain in the arse. And it's true for the sake of 95p just buy it now.
