Most ridiculous pregnancy/birth depictions in films?

I'm watching Poldark as I missed it first time around and once again the only sign/symptom of pregnancy is someone being sick and she just gave birth in minutes!

Waters breaking in a dramatic fashion is always, always the first sign of labour in films!

What other ridiculous depictions of pregnancy /birth can you remember from films?

(Disclaimer --- I'm not saying those things can never happen! Just that most of us have other experiences too!!)

Phoebe’s same day as she had ivf, positive pregnancy test was somewhat far fetched as well as the birth scenes.

wibbleee · 28/03/2019 20:47

First thing that came to me was Daphne in neighbours with her tights on!

EmrysAtticus · 28/03/2019 20:48

I also gave birth in stirrups (episiotomy), I'm just a walking, talking cliche Grin

grumpyyetgorgeous · 28/03/2019 20:52

Soap babies that are born very prematurely, stay in hospital for a few weeks then in the shot where they come home they always look as if they're ready to sit up...... somebody needs to explain to the producers that prem babies stay small for quite a while!!

Also, single mums who go out partying within days of giving birth, and without organising a babysitter apparently.

le42 · 28/03/2019 20:53

Love all of these! 😂

The first sign of pregnancy... to throw up dramatically into a bin on the side of the street ! Not just constant, annoying nausea without actually throwing up or the horrendous headaches I had and the painful boobs! They never show those!

My waters broke in a very undramatic fashion with ds1 I was lying in bed as it was 5.30am and it didn't signify the start of Labour either I had to be induced two days later HmmI hate how heavily pregnant women never make it to hospitals in soaps even worse when they decide to go on a remote woodland walk in the middle of no where when 9 months pregnant with their worst enemy Hmm

EngagedAgain · 28/03/2019 20:59

I'm another one who hurtled straight into labour after waters broke. No prior warning of any sort. Pain started immediately and while fairly low level, there was no break.

Wallsbangers · 28/03/2019 21:00

I've never seen a pool birth on film/tv where they get a sieve out to scoop out blood/poo/general revolting stuff.

I'd like to thank my NCT course for prepping me for that one.

MustBeAWeasly · 28/03/2019 21:01

Rachel in friends when the midwife has no idea the baby is breach until her bum is showing!!

The way a pregnant woman is absolutely fine until BAM waters break followed immediately by a contraction so bad she can hardly stand and a mad dash to the hospital.

Duchessgummybuns · 28/03/2019 21:03

No one can ever dispose of a positive pregnancy test properly in movie/soapland either. It’s always in the kitchen bin or somewhere the person they would want least to know their good news would find it

x2boys · 28/03/2019 21:05

Yes the mad cash to hospital ,I know some people have very quick labours but seriously I could have travelled to the other end of the country several times over my labours were so long and drawn out .

le42 · 28/03/2019 21:13

@Duchessgummybuns Have you seen that film with Jennifer Lopez in where she gets pregnant and her dog eats the test and she has to wait for him to go toilet to find out!!! I'm sure most pregnancy tests have two in the pack! Or this highly affluent woman can afford another one! 😂😂😂

Lovestonap · 28/03/2019 21:14

Always at the first contraction the mad panic to get to hospital. No midwife on the phone saying if you can still talk you're nowhere near....

No one ever induced. Ever.

I thought Miranda's birth scene in SATC was relatively good.

I'm sure there was a birth scene in a lift in holby City once which didn't seem to feature any sort of umbilical cord. Which I thought seemed strange.

BarmyLlama · 28/03/2019 21:17

You rarely see umbilical cords, do you?

Ikabod · 28/03/2019 21:31

"Crazy cravings" - why is it always stuff like pickles with ice cream?

Kittykatmacbill · 28/03/2019 21:45

Hanumantelpiece. That episode of bay watch!

First episode I ever saw, she definitely deliver a very clean baby on a sandy beach without moving her bathing suit. It still makes me laugh like a drain when I think of it!

vampirethriller · 28/03/2019 21:53

I remember the Baywatch one! it was the Hoff and I think he was shocked she was pregnant, as in he hadn't noticed.
There's never a placenta. Though EastEnders had one not long ago actually.

TheDarkPassenger · 28/03/2019 21:59

My waters were spectacular too! Didn’t go into labour til an hour later so was basically just wandering around with fluid gushing out my fanny whenever the baby moved... they don’t show you that bit do they!

Also love it when they don’t have umbilical cords... that’s very clever. And when they come out 3 months old... that’s just amazing

Hassled · 28/03/2019 22:02

There was once a "giving birth on a beach" scene in Baywatch where David Hasselhof acted as midwife and miraculously the girl gave birth without the need to take her swimsuit off. It was quite an achievement.

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 28/03/2019 22:13

In Hollyoaks, Amy gave birth on the kitchen floor to a baby already wearing a nappy Grin

iklboo · 28/03/2019 22:33

people have very quick labours but seriously I could have travelled to the other end of the country several times over my labours were so long and drawn out .

I had an epidural and fell asleep for four hours. Grin

happymummy12345 · 28/03/2019 22:37

Not so much labour or birth, but for me it's after, like the first couple of weeks after the character has given birth.
Wearing tight jeans straight away, don't seem to be in any pain down there, sitting down no problem at all.
I know it's not like this for everyone, but for me I had to have some stitches which were sore, and it was uncomfortable to go to the loo- I used to pour warm water over to help the stinging, and to sit down for a couple of weeks so I'd sit on extra cushions or pillows to give extra softness.
But on tv you never see that at all.

LittleAndOften · 28/03/2019 22:50

How to Be Single had it all. Skinny woman whose body and life didn't change at all during pregnancy. Dramatic waters breaking. Mad rush to the hospital in a taxi. I could go on. I wanted to throw a shoe at the TV, but I can't afford to break it.

MumofTinies · 28/03/2019 22:54

I'd have to say Junior (Arnold Schwarzenegger).

Without a doubt the most disturbing movie ever!
