To think families that have more vehicles than people and no drive are selfish twats!

Yes I'm looking at you Mr and Mrs Silver cars across the road. There are only two of you, you have no drive and yet you have now got 3 cars (they acquired a new one today) and a van (all of which are silver hence the name).

What the fuck do you need 4 vehicles for you can only physically be driving 2 at a time!

We live on a road which like many others across the country has difficulties regarding parking, only a few houses have drives. So why would you think it is reasonable to have 4 vehicles. You are pretty much ensuring that your neighbours have difficulty parking and yes I think you are selfish twats why don't you move to a house with a drive!

Does anyone else have such entitled car collecting neighbours?

Sorry for the rant but they do my head in. Every night moving their cars to be as close to the house as possible. As soon as anyone leaves the space seems to be filled with one of their cars. Angry

Missing the point here and clearly have lived in a city too long as I'm genuinely stunned that people have this many vehicles and it's apparently fairly common!!

Well thankfully we do have space including the back garden to park all of our vehicles (total all taxed and insured so could be parked on the road = 8 or 9 with just 3 drivers - in mitigation includes vintage / specialist vehicles etc)

It's a good job you don't live by my sister. Sister and two daughters all have a car. My sister's husband brings home a big four wheel drive, sisters brother in law (who lives with them) brings home his works van, that's five cars and no drive.

I've told her, I'd hate to live by her!

Where I live it is indeed max 1 permit per person & max 2 per household. Second permit is also about 33% more expensive than the first one to discourage two-car households. I think it's great and wouldn't mind if they made the second permit twice as expensive as the first one. It's difficult enough to find a parking space as it is.

We have a car collector on our road, he has a work van and four vintage cars that just sit taking up space on our road. He has no driveway and it causes so many issues for people who have to park at one end of the road and drag shopping and toddlers and everything else to their homes at the other end of the street! Selfish prick!

There is a limit to what you can feasibly charge for permits in a lot of cases. I know we have some pavement parkers but there is never any wardens round to stop it. If parking permits were expensive, the odd fine would be cheaper as 99.9% of the time there would be nobody enforcing.

yep annoying. It led me to move out of our flat where this was an issue and buy a house with a big drive so I'd never be hunting down a space on the road again and have to lug my shopping miles and miles because neighbours had hobby cars plus work cars plus ordinary cars everywhere

Yanbu op. We have similar on our street. Some of the bloody things don't move for months on end.

Although what's worse is the man opposite (who has one of the few houses on the street WITH a drive) has filled his drive up with random shite so he now parks his multiple cars on the road. Angry

We have one car between us that we can hardly ever find a space for.

2 houses here with parking for one car have 7 a piece. That’s TWELVE cars for 2 houses on the road.

It’s like bloody parking wars here.

I completely agree... it's such a nightmare. So selfish. The bloody stress of not knowing if you're going to be able to park outside your house or even near. We have one car and our ex ndn (just moved...hurrah!) had a car and two vans. They had a driveway they didn't ever use and a garage for the works van which was just down the road that they also didn't use. Then just down the road had 3 cars too and there just wasn't room for everyone. As pp have said, it might be legal but it's shitty. When we got home from the hospital after having DS I could barely walk after my EMCS and I had to struggle from a couple of roads away as there was absolutely nowhere to park.

I don't understand why people need two cars and a work van. BIL has a little work van, they also have a very nice family car. BIL uses the van for work (and fishing), at the weekend the van stays in the garage and they use the family car. If BIL needs to go somewhere without SIL and the DCs and she needs the car, he takes his van. If SIL and the DCs are staying at home and he's just popping out (or vice versa) the person popping out takes the car. Do you all just love paying insurance???

My neighbours have a car and a massive van. Both parked on the road. Another neighbour has three cars and a caravan on their drive but can't get the car they actually use on there so park outside. I wouldn't mind but the other vehicles have not been used in two years?!?!

There's very limited parking in our street as most of the houses have drives. There's a few houses that have a 2 car drive, but 3 cars.

However, the CF's opposite (they are the CF's for numerous reasons!) have 5 cars. Which would actually be fine as they have a drive that the previous occupants of the house used to fit 6 cars on. But they installed fecking basketball hoops on the drive and park them ALL on the sodding road!. There's a big push for residents permits for on street parking atm and I think it's because people are hoping it'll take driveways into account (I don't see the council doing that though).

I would love to know. Surely it costs a fortune and like I said you can only be driving 1 at a time so even if you both drive you are only ever going to be using 2 cars at a time.

I'll try.
We have three cars but only two of us live here: however, although we don't have a drive we do have a garage big enough for two cars, so there is only ever one parked on the road.
Why do we have 3 cars? Because none of our kids has their own car so when they come home they borrow one (no public transport apart from a train from the nearest metropolis 50 miles away).
The cars are all over ten years old so have no resale value.
My husband is often away (with one of the cars) for a week or ten days at a time - I don' t use a car every day but due to a lack of public transport when I do need one it's vital ..... as the cars are all oldish they each have to go into the garage from time to time so having a "spare one" makes sense.

With regard to the person who has four vintage cars parked on the street, round here that is against the by-laws if they aren't moved at least once a fortnight.... Any car can be towed if it is not moved after that time.

Yes! My neighbours. They have a massive caravan, 2 cars and a work van. So the caravan and the bigger family car are on the drive. Always. Only 2 adults. Plus a parent visits daily and always parks in front of our house, so we have her car one side of our dropped kerb and the parent's car on the other side so we have to do a strange manoeuvre to get on our drive. Irritates the hell out of me.

This was the situation on my brothers road for years. Street of small terraced houses, some of which had five people in all with cars. Parking on one side only.
Permits introduced..... voila!! Solved.

Actually - I do have one just for weekends! I have my main car for commuting and every day stuff, but then I have a classic car that I just enjoy going for drives in at the weekend in the spring/summer because it's a joy to drive. I sorn it over the winter. It is actually appreciating in value and because it's a classic the insurance is minimal. I love cars and I love driving. So yeah - just me and 2 cars.

Same where we live. We have a family opposite with four cars. They believe that outside ours and either side of their house are naturally for them to park to save them walking. Sod we have to park in the next road. Or two roads on. Two are young adults who obviously live there for free so wouldn’t kill them to respect their parents neighbours as all they are doing is setting the president for when they eventually leave and then people will be well you did it to us we will Park our third car outside yours for a few days 😁.
Seriously though It makes life difficult when you come home in the dark with a sleeping toddler a boot full of shopping and they have moved a car outside your house then don’t move it for five days as they have so many cars they rarely move. Hence why we are moving can’t take it anymore. I can’t be arsed with the idiocy of it all. However younoark outside their house for half hr you get the cold shoulder for weeks 😂

Some people are just arseholes. Opposite to me have an empty drive and have had a van and a land rover parked outside mine for 3 days now, and they are parked so badly they are taking up an extra space. Selfish wankers.

Same here. The houses on my side of the road don't have drives, the other side does. Yet two families don't ever use their drives and only park on the road (four cars) One family (two adults) collect a certain make of car and have six of these plus a van. The van goes on the drive while the six other cars get lined up down the road.

Oww I get pissed off enough that they take over the road as it is I'd be fucking furious if they continued to park like they owned the road despite having a drive to park on!
