Am I being unreasonable? Got a fine from school, we too the Friday and the Monday over the Easter half term to take the kids to a family christening, £300 fine, I'm fuming. Has anyone appealed and won? Has anyone any experience whatsoever?

Ours doesn't even refer for fines under five days in a term are missed :S

Spookydollshouse · 28/03/2019 16:06

*until.

SachaStark · 28/03/2019 16:09

Hang on, if it was over half-term week, does that mean you actually took the Friday before, then the Monday coming back? In which case it's an 11 day trip for a christening?

Fattymcfaterson · 28/03/2019 16:09

Hang on. So you took the Friday and monday off over half term.
So Friday.... Half term.... Monday
You went to a christening that lasted 11 days?? Pull the other one!!!

Norfolkenchancemate · 28/03/2019 19:59

I went to a christening in the country my family is from. I'm confused as to how this turned into an attack Norfolk thread...

I didn't have anyone to look after the kids for me, I confused the holidays as I've just booked flights for Easter and I was easily confused today. The Friday and Monday flights were the only ones available. There is nothing else to add! Our local LEA told me today that the head can put forward half a days holiday if he doesn't believe you're at the dentist/Drs etc.

It is what it is, themes the rules I’m afraid .

Not as confused as I am Confused

Hollowvictory · 28/03/2019 20:13

Yes it's for the 2 days unauthorised absence when you went to the christening.

Hollowvictory · 28/03/2019 20:14

You knew youd be fined but went anyway. I take my children out every year, I haven't ever been fined but I'd just look on it as part of the cost of an 11 day jaunt overseas.

Jinglejanglefish · 28/03/2019 20:15

Who attacked Norfolk? No one has mentioned Norfolk.

Holidayshopping · 28/03/2019 20:16

How did you get from £180 to £300?

Most LEAs don’t fine unless you’re absent for more than a week.

Hollowvictory · 28/03/2019 20:16

The op is named Norfolk. As in 'normal, For Norfolk' 😂

Jinglejanglefish · 28/03/2019 20:17

Oh 😂 I see.

FreyaB84 · 28/03/2019 20:35

It sounds to me like they don't believe that your kids were ill just before Christmas.

Having all of them off just before the Christmas holidays and then doing the same thing when the next holiday rolls around does look a bit suspicious, even though you did have genuine reasons for it.

Hollowvictory · 28/03/2019 20:37

They can't fine for sickness even if they don't believe it. The fine is for the unauthorised absence.
