To be ridiculously annoyed by articulate adults saying ‘my bad’

TheHorseOnSeventhAvenue · 27/03/2019 20:08

Why is this suddenly everywhere. You are an articulate adult with full command of the English language - you can either say my mistake or sorry I was wrong.

Especially annoying in professional people in a work environment. Grow up!

I agree. People should speak properly.

piefacedClique · 27/03/2019 20:09

Yes! 🙌🏻! This really pisses me off!

Waveysnail · 27/03/2019 20:11

Do we have the same boss Grin

mimibunz · 27/03/2019 20:15

Even worse, it’s old slang from about 3 years ago.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 27/03/2019 20:16

It's just a phrase.

cstaff · 27/03/2019 20:16

I can just about tolerate kids using that phrase but when I hear adults saying it, it really riles me. A man in work, a bloody solicitor said it to me the other day. I gave him one of my looks and asked him was he reversing in age and he took it back quick enough. I don't think I'll be hearing that phrase from him again Grin

DrDreReturns · 27/03/2019 20:17

Doesn't bother me. Languages change over time.

starzig · 27/03/2019 20:18

More people speak casually at work these days. I see no problem with it. Would hate to work somewhere uptight about things like that.

DixieLandReject · 27/03/2019 20:19

Cannot stand it. Where did it come from? Is it an American saying?

cluecu · 27/03/2019 20:22

Don't understand why it's so annoying Confused surely the intention behind the (non-offensive) phrase is what's more important anyway?

Justmuddlingalong · 27/03/2019 20:23

I agree. Can I also add the word 'ickle' to word's that boil my piss.

Ohyesiam · 27/03/2019 20:23

I like language evolving, and I like succinct speech( can’t stand lugubrious boring waffle), so it’s ok by me. Been around a while now though.

SkinnyPete · 27/03/2019 20:23

I'm pretty sure my bad originates from at least the 80s/90s on basketball courts in the US. Probably popularised in films shortly after...although I can't think of any off hand.

If used in a playful/informal nature, I don't see the harm or issue.

Justmuddlingalong · 27/03/2019 20:23

Words obviously. 🤭

Ohyesiam · 27/03/2019 20:24

Mind you I’m not so laid back with mangled words like( cringe) hubby.

Singlenotsingle · 27/03/2019 20:24

Never heard that one. My bad? What madness is this?

thetwinkletoescollective · 27/03/2019 20:28

I actually hate it because what it is saying is 'I am not actually taking any responsibility for what I have just done/said despite you saying that was incorrect/hurtful/wrong'.. In fact its also saying 'I am not taking you seriously at all'. And that is why I hate it so much.

DixieLandReject · 27/03/2019 20:28

The phrase ‘living my best life’ annoys me more than it should. As though we wouldn’t be doing anyway.

Messyisthenewtidy · 27/03/2019 20:28

I just googled it and apparently Shakespeare said it in a sonnet or something. Then Alicia Silverstone in Clueless Grin and it's been around ever since.

I'm sure Phoebe in Friends said it a few times too. Obviously that gives it an authenticity which makes it officially part of the English language . So, you know, your bad.Smile

lexiconmistress · 27/03/2019 20:29

Shit. I say 'my bad'. My bad.

hazell42 · 27/03/2019 20:42

Usually said when people dont really think they need to apologise, in my experience. It sounds a bit like an apology, but its really not.

Mokepon · 27/03/2019 20:46

I love language and the evolution of slang but I simply don't understand this one.
It doesn't even make any sense.
I'm bad? My mistake?
Me no likey. 🤣🤣🤣

lasttimeround · 27/03/2019 20:51

I love my bad.

TheDarkPassenger · 27/03/2019 20:52

Ooooops I just literally said this on another thread about two minutes ago...

I don’t wanna grow up though, I’m 30 I would like to start growing back down now please Smile

animaginativeusername · 27/03/2019 20:55
