Buying a new car

Governoress86 · 27/03/2019 17:25

Not really an aibu but posting for traffic.

I have just started a job in the community and my car is playing up so I'm going to buy one on Friday but have no idea what car I want.

Im looking ideally something that is good on petrol, reliable and not too big. What does everyone drive?

Check the Skoda Fabia, I have a rapid and they are great! My dad says that the car you choose depends on your priorities, some people like a driver's car, some people prioritise technology, some prioritise appearance. It's very personal, go see them all and drive them.

Ford focus 1.0 eco boost. £30 tax, roughly £40 to fill up and does about 350miles.

Good size and the eco boost means you have a bit of power when you need it.

Reliable and easy car to drive .

Amara123 · 27/03/2019 18:38

I like a car with a sturdy German feel and a good drive by the way. Skoda is made by the same people who do Volkswagen.

I've got a couple of Toyota Aygos on an 18 plate. Ex demonstrators with 4 years warranty remaining. £7999.

I’ve just got a Hyundai i10 - so cute and easy to drive and cheap - love it! Having said that I only use it 2 or 3 times a week as I cycle when the weather is good!

MoreHairyThanScary · 27/03/2019 18:40

Ford Fiesta ( I work in the community too) great boot, low insurance, good engine and not too big for awkward parking spaces.

Some of my colleagues had mini's and I would never get one they don't seem well built and have endless troubles, Toyota Yaris is also good.

Have a look at Honest John - Daily Telegraph for impartial advice

sanityisamyth · 27/03/2019 18:46

Ford Focus. Love mine!!!

likeridingabike · 27/03/2019 18:48

I'm on my 5th Hyundai, you get so much more for your money, lots of gadgets/safety features and very reliable. I've got an i30 but also had i10 and i20.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/03/2019 18:49

I love my Hyundai i20. I had a Fiesta Ecoboost before that but much prefer the Hyundai.

Governoress86 · 27/03/2019 19:00

I am liking the Toyota Yaris. My partner says to get a golf aswell but I'm not sure

I have a Seat Mini which is basically the same as the VW Up and the Skoda Citigo and I love it. I had a Fiat 500 a couple of years ago and did love it to bits but needed more room. Although the Mii is small I have 4 doors, a boot that will fit my two dogs or a full weekly shop for 5 or a pushchair etc in, its economical (although the 75bhp version is the better engine!!). I took my eldest son who is 6 ft 3 with me when I went to look at it and he can fit in the front and back comfortably too which he couldn't do in the 500.

TheMonaOgg · 27/03/2019 19:00

A Seat Mii- damn autocorrect!!

timeforachangeithink · 27/03/2019 19:10

I have a Hyundai i10. Love it. It's a wee tardis.

restingbitchfarce · 27/03/2019 19:50

I have a Kia venga. No one knows what that is but I love it. My daughter now has one and loves her car so much, more than the mini she previously had

100Birds · 27/03/2019 20:22

Skoda fabia

Nat6999 · 27/03/2019 20:38

Hyundai Tucson, I'm getting my second one next week. Really comfortable to drive, loads of safety features, good driving position, reasonable fuel consumption, the first one has never let me down & is brilliant in bad weather.

GuineaPiglet345 · 27/03/2019 20:43

I like the Toyota Yaris, it’s not the worlds most exciting car but it’s very reliable, pretty cheap to run and you be surprised how much stuff you can fit in it Grin

VelvetSpoon · 27/03/2019 20:44

My son recently got a 18 plate 1.4 Corsa which he says is great, he went awat with 3 friends for the weekend and the 4 of them plus luggage all fitted in with room to spare. Plus even though he's 20 his insurance is only £700 for the year (irritatingly less than mine!)

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/03/2019 20:50

Kia Picanto. Voted best city car 2019. Better than the Up apparently. More to the point they're offering £2k scrappage if your car is over 7 years old. So a brand new car pretty much within budget. Win win Smile

No I don't work for Kia - it's what I've done.

DrWhy · 27/03/2019 20:53

Another vote for the Skoda Fabia Estate. Ours has been way more reliable than our Freelander, costs a fraction as much to run and somehow seems to swallow nearly as much stuff! They don’t feel ‘plush’ inside but for me at least the driving position is good and the visibility out of the rear and side windows when manoeuvring is great.

Lulumush · 27/03/2019 20:58

VW all the way. Golf or Golf estate.

Disneymum1993 · 27/03/2019 21:11

Audi a3 sport 2litre diesel, great on fuel and very reliable. Best car iv had

Two of my neighbours have Kia Picantos (one in white, one in black) and they really are lovely looking. When the time comes to trade in my Fiat 500 I'd be tempted to look at a Picanto.

handslikecowstits · 29/03/2019 10:07

You can buy mine if you like, OP.
