The USA has another major outbreak of measles and European measles rates are worse than ever.

People who've fallen for Andrew Wakefield's fraudulent scam by not vaccinating put every young baby (under 1s cannot be vaccinated) and immuno-compromised person at risk, not only their own child, it's terrifying. We should be working towards as near as possible global elimination of measles, like previous doctors did with smallpox and polio, rather than making it worse. His work was found to be invalid and his financial motives have been exposed time and again to make it clear that he did this simply for financial gain, that's pure evil. If a business behaved like that with public health and safety their board could be prosecuted.

These deaths are almost all avoidable, occur as a direct result of his attempted fraud and they're global, so surely one or another criminal justice system can prosecute this criminal and put him behind bars?

They did. He's in prison in Texas. (or was)

neddle · 27/03/2019 11:26

Yabu
Not everyone who hasn’t vaccinated their child was influenced by him. There are other valid reasons.

BlueSkiesLies · 27/03/2019 11:28

Totally agree.

‘Do no harm’ - the fucking awful excuse of a human being has probably put public health backwards more than any other individual.

MRex · 27/03/2019 11:29

Where do you get that information from? He tried to sue the BMJ from Texas and it got thrown out of court and he lives in Austin.
I've tried to Google and see nothing about him being held to account, quite the opposite - he's roaming the USA continuing to peddle his lies.

That was for @PlainSpeakingStraightTalking.

He was struck off the UK medical register - wiki
"On 28 January 2010, a five-member statutory tribunal of the GMC found three dozen charges proved, including four counts of dishonesty and 12 counts involving the abuse of developmentally delayed children"

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Wakefield

He was ordered to pay defence costs in some of the many legal actions he has lost according to wikipedia.

I would say to parents just look at how children die - do your family tree research which i have been diong, look at what people died of, all kinds of things we avoid now if we vaccinate, horrible deaths - all avoided due to vaccination. Even if a vaccination carries a small risk as any injection will I would put my children behind the protection of the other children and have them take that risk for the good of others.

ScreamScreamIceCream · 27/03/2019 11:36

@neddle - "other valid reasons" Hmm

Chloemol · 27/03/2019 11:39

People vaccinating their child, or not, is their choice and they do it, or not, for a number of reasons. You can’t bkame just one person.

BlueSkiesLies · 27/03/2019 11:40

other valid reasons

Oh you know. Chemicals. Toxins. Mercury. Virus Overload. Government trackers. Other bullshit that imbecile anti-vaxers come out with

neddle · 27/03/2019 11:41

Family history of reactions, allergies etc.

Prequelle · 27/03/2019 11:43

Yes I agree

He shouldn't be now cavorting with the American Elite, having it off with Elle MacPherson, and having his nonsense propaganda platformed by the likes of Netflix

MRex · 27/03/2019 11:47

@Xenia - being struck off and paying some money isn't enough to make up for all the deaths he's caused in my opinion.

@neddle - if your child might respond badly to measles in the MMR vaccine then logically they are one of the children at the highest risk of death from measles, it isn't worth the risk. Most children with allergies can also be safely vaccinated with a few precautions, see this article: [http]www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/09/080902074557.htm[/http]

He's never done prison time but arguably should have.

Buddytheelf85 · 27/03/2019 12:04

@prequelle - agreed, I think it’s particularly appalling that NetFlix have given him a platform for his fraudulent bullshit.

SamanthaBrique · 27/03/2019 12:07

He's not in prison. He currently seems to be living the high life with his girlfriend, supermodel Elle MacPherson.

Oohgossip · 27/03/2019 12:56

He is very much responsible and should be treated as such imho

MRex · 27/03/2019 18:42

@Buddytheelf85 - is there any petition against Netflux to highlight how appalling it is that they are giving a platform to throw fraudster and get them to take it down?

Bit late now and the trail of evidence is too dispersed. He and the anti vaxxers definitely bear moral responsibility. And before they all jump on me, I have an autistic child.

MRex · 27/03/2019 18:49

I don't agree that it's too late. He's still actively campaigning and the death rates are rising. Actual child deaths, that are because of him.
