So our schools & NHS are struggling...but Jeremy Cunt can authorise this

No worries Grin

ShowMeTheKittens · 27/03/2019 12:36

Can't believe people are sticking up for Jez Cunt. It's like they want to cut their own throats. He's a bstaad.
There are plenty of spaces that can be rented. It's for his private and no private fuckery.
Do you not know what politicians get up to?
It's enough in the news.

RomanyQueen1 · 27/03/2019 12:36

Are people really surprised, I'm sure people live on a different planet.
It's what governments do, especially the Cons.
They are in it for themselves, they do not represent us, no matter how many times you want to kid yourselves.

Key headline figures from UK trade and investment in 2018

•£114bn – The US remained the UK's top single export destination, with exports increasing to £114bn in the year to 2018 Q3.

Dec 2018 Report - Foreign investment in UK

The US was the UK’s largest investor, according to the ONS statistics - with the amount of investment coming from the US increasing by 19.5% to £351bn.

CatWithKittens · 27/03/2019 12:56

Is Mumsnet really getting to state of so much of the rest of social media that people are unable to debate without personal abuse, obscenity and accusations of bad faith? This thread, like so many others where politics, faith or the Royal Family is mentioned, is short on fact or reasoned argument but full of a type of abuse which denies tolerance and would probably deny free speech itself given half a chance.

thedisorganisedmum · 27/03/2019 12:57

They are in it for themselves, they do not represent us, no matter how many times you want to kid yourselves.

you do realise that it has nothing to do with one political party, not sure you think the Cons are worst there.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 27/03/2019 13:00

I think it's fine. More economical than renting. Will be used for multiple purposes.

just think of it as an asset. It will maintain but more likely increase its value.

Yabbers · 27/03/2019 21:28

Can't believe people are sticking up for Jez
It is possible to see the sense in making a business decision which saves money in the long term without “sticking up for” the person who happened to be the one overseeing that particular decision.

@Evilspiritgin

The reason the US healthcare is used as an example so often is that it is very very expensive (US pays around 17% of it's GDP in healthcare costs, compared to UK 9% or France 11%) while by many measures (life expectant, infant mortality etc) they receive worse healthcare.

Worse the money motivation for healthcare professionals suggests that patients are put at risk, just look at the opioid epidemic in the US, where pharmaceutical companies lobbied the Food and Drug Administration to allow their highly addictive powerful morphine based pain killers.

SoloD · 28/03/2019 07:37

That's before you look at the stories about HMOs and people bankrupted by falling ill.

US healthcare is so expensive that the average birth in the US costs more than giving birth in the Lindo wing.
www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2018/04/23/a-typical-american-birth-costs-as-much-as-delivering-a-royal-baby

We really don't want to go down the US healthcare route.

maddening · 28/03/2019 07:41

I am sure that renting out big corporate spaces on an event by event basis would cost less.

MuseumofInnocence · 28/03/2019 08:00

I know a little about the world of Diplomacy, and I'm aware that the UK has a whole range of properties around the world to entertain guests an dignitaries. I'm afraid it's part of how the world works. If you meet a UK ambassador anywhere, they're likely to have somewhere nice to live. There is a need to entertain people in the evening. New York is an expensive city, and while I haven't seen the business case, it doesn't seem entirely illogical

Unfinishedkitchen · 28/03/2019 08:04

Well they somewhere to snooze and sign contracts with American private healthcare companies post Brexit.

cantonwanton · 28/03/2019 08:15

Perhaps we ought to look at previous Governments who have sold off many foreign properties for a quick buck to fill the deficit and proclaim economic success..?

BunsyGirl · 28/03/2019 19:09

The lease of the current US embassy in London was reported to have cost £500 million! You might want to have a walk around Mayfair and surrounding areas of London and have a peak at the foreign embassies. £12 million is peanuts compared to the value of some of them!

Aria999 · 28/03/2019 19:57

There are seven rooms because a minister doesn’t just hop on the plane with their carry-on backpack by themselves. Not right now maybe but the way things are going they might need to start...

Bunnyfuller · 28/03/2019 20:18

Whitehall or Westminster for meetings. We are falling the fuck over ourselves with impressive locations. They’ve always been there.

This is a jolly flat.

Nurseornot · 28/03/2019 20:42

US healthcare companies and lobbyists are vultures. I'm sure they have a spare office building or two to host politicians in while they dish out bribes and draw up contracts in their favour, because we all know what's really going to happen. 🤪

moon2 · 29/03/2019 08:46

If you look at the cost of buildings and lodgings near Westminster in the Americans Ambassadors mansion with huge grounds in Regents Park it is most probably a drop in the ocean in comparison. One might even ask the same question, why does he and his family need a house with so many rooms? Having been there I would say anything elsejust won’t cut the mustard and one would be the laughing stock of the world attempting to hold events and parties in anything else. I think people need to work up and realise the Middle East, Far East and China capitals are light years ahead and if you’re in any doubt a tour of the world would soon enlighten. I’m not saying that it’s nice to hear of such spending but Joe public as we are it is what it is.
To add these rooms are for family, staff, aides and space for entertaining visitors and parties and important meetings. The days are filled with work and schmoozing.

moon2 · 29/03/2019 08:47

Too early in the morning for all these typos

cantonwanton · 29/03/2019 10:00

I agree with you moon2. I think people fail to understand that the world is globalised these days. They need to get out and see the world. Far too many people live their whole lives in their small post industrial town and don't realise for the UK to continue with the level of wealth we're at or improve we need to look outside.
