I live in a row a terraces where it seems big houses have been split into 2 so we have shared front gardens split by a gated path. I’m renting the house privately and have lived here for almost 3 years now, it is going to be quite a long-term rent. Don’t really get on with NDNs as they have interfered greatly in my life and caused me distress whilst seriously ill (cancer). Their dog has completely ravaged the front gate beyond repair and I presume my LL has been on at them to replace it for a while. Instead of simply paying for one, NDN has made it himself
It must have taken him a year so far as I’ve watched him constantly trespass on my garden to ‘measure’ things without asking since last Spring.
I’m very appreciative and I’m sure the LL is but AIBU to think it would have been better to just pay for a professionally built gate and have someone fit it? Their DIY one is made from broken down pallets so will surely rot within a few years and then cause more issues in the long run. The other issue is that if he is going to remove the old gate himself it will be really dangerous. The houses are well over 100 years old and the front walls look ready to collapse. There is risk of my wall caving in when he removes the gate. It just all seems a bit stingy to me, especially using secondhand wood. Gates cost £20-80 from Wickes and the like
I’m not being crazy am I? I’d buy one myself if he hadn’t started on his project
