Nearly 7 months and he's sleeping on his tummy....

Put ds down to bed, he's rolled over on to his tummy whilst awake to go to sleep. First time he's ever done it. He's now fast asleep and I'm debating wether to move him onto his back.

He's a massive 'roller' and will roll from one side of the room to the other. And has been rolling since just before 4 months old

He's also asleep right next to me as he's still in his next to me crib.

He never ever sleeps past 1am so I'm wondering if him sleeping on his tummy will make a difference.

Would you move him or leave him? If I leave him, I'm just going to lay next to him checking he's ok....so either way the sleep makes no difference to me!

My DD started doing this at that age too. I googled and it said it's fine by that age so I left her too it while keeping an eye on her. She's now 9 months now and sleeps better on her tummy.

Don't worry about it. They all start rolling around in their cots eventually. Don't try and lie with him to keep a check. You'll stress yourself and end up a tired mess.

Thanks! I'll leave him....he's my 3rd baby so I really need to learn to not panic!

Once they roll onto their stomach by themselves at that stage you just leave them too it, they’ll be fine. It’s only putting a tiny baby on its front that is dangerous

I can't remember what age babies lift their heads. If he can lift his head he would be able to lift it up if he is sick (and therefore wouldn't drown which I thought was the main hazard with babies sleeping on their fronts.
Plus, if he can roll over he can roll agai if he gets into trouble. I think he would be fine.
Whatever you do don't get on of those devices that stop babies from rolling over. I can't rremember what they are called but they're killers.

Rtmhwales · 25/03/2019 22:39

Mine started this earlier. Once I got over the panic I realized he's fine. Now he's a much better sleeper, sleeps through the night.

My DD has slept on her tummy since she was a small baby....she's 14 now and still does. I also worked out that the reason she couldn't sleep for long in a car seat was that after a while her instinct was to try and turn over! If your DS is rolling by himself he'll be fine, you could pop him in a sleeping bag if he's not in one already, so you know he can't roll under the covers.

I'm 35 and still sleep on my stomach despite ff cup boobs. I have done since I learnt to roll over.

x2boys · 26/03/2019 00:39

Ah bless him he's probably more comfortable like that ? The risk go down after ,6,7 months I expect because they can move around more?

Thymeout · 26/03/2019 00:49

Even new borns can turn their heads from side to side. My three were born when putting babies down to sleep on their fronts was thought to be best practice, because if they regurgitated they wouldn't choke.

I keep hoping that SIDS research will be proved wrong, because lots of babies sleep better on their fronts and develop stronger necks and backs because of it. And no flat heads with bald patches.
