I always stick it in a plastic bag and bin it. Trying to reduce plastic bag use though...

I use old newspaper & then put it in the food waste.

dementedpixie · 24/03/2019 22:08

We can't put oil or newspaper in the food waste bin

myrtleWilson · 24/03/2019 22:08

We collect into a clippy container and then take to our local council tip once it is full as they have an oil/fat depository...

greathat · 24/03/2019 22:09

And I'd heard animal fat is bad for birds too :(

There are only 2 things I cool that have fat that needs to be disposed (ie cant be wiped out with kitchen roll) and I don't cook either of them often. I cyphon into something I'm already getting rid of.... so yogurt pot, empty butter tub etc.

Mustbetimeforachange · 24/03/2019 22:16

I keep an old plastic tub handy & then put it in the bin

DoodleLab · 24/03/2019 22:16

Cook with it! Scrape it into a jar, save it in the fridge, then next time I cook sausages/eggs/stew or whatever I use the saved fat. Left over bacon fat is especially delicious to cook with. Waste not want not Grin

If there's only a tiny bit left, I wipe the pan with a sheet of kitchen paper, scrunch it up and put in an empty egg box which I use as firelighters.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 24/03/2019 22:21

We have a very old bowl that we out any remaining fat in and then once it’s full and usually hard we scoop it in the bin and start again. Usually takes a couple of months to fill.

blueskiespls · 24/03/2019 22:21

When we were little, we would have dripping (solidified fat from meat) on toast, especially nice with marmite.

Anyone else??😳

Verbena37 · 24/03/2019 22:26

If it’s a small amount, I wipe with kitchen roll and bin. If it’s more (like out of sausages), I pour it over kitchen roll into a bowl, wait until it soaks into the tissue then bin it.

ChicCroissant · 24/03/2019 22:28

I pour it into a takeaway coffee cup (handily comes with lid!) or a tin can and bin occasionally.

slipperywhensparticus · 24/03/2019 22:29

We dont have a lot of fat waste in our house what little we do have goes in the bin we dont have a food waste bin so it's in general waste 🤷‍♀️

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 24/03/2019 22:29

Dog or bird food if possible, if not I put it in a pot or jar till it solidifies and out it in with the food waste for compost.

I don’t use a deep fat fryer though, so don’t have huge quantities.

Langrish · 24/03/2019 22:31

Mix it with seed, set in the fridge in a baking tray, cut into wedges and put out for the birds.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 24/03/2019 22:34

The only fat I have is if I am doing a roast. I leave the fat to cool in the baking tray and then put a layer of bread over to soak it up then the bread is hung from the bird feeder.
I do the same if I have cooked fish in milk.

DeaflySilence · 24/03/2019 22:35

Used to have a neighbour who would make a cooking fat type of paper mache (with torn up newspaper, old paper towel, tissue etc), squish it into the bottom of egg cartons, and use one piece to light her wood stove or the barbecue.

I saw her use them on numerous occasions, and they did work. She had recycling down to a fine art.

SleightOfMind · 24/03/2019 22:39

I have a hotbin (smugface) so it all goes in there.
Halo

GuineaPiglet345 · 24/03/2019 22:39

Eerrr we just eat it, we don’t have anything that leaves bucket fulls of fat Confused

blueshoes · 24/03/2019 22:41

I use a wok to deep fry - the shape of the wok minimises the amount of oil used. Any leftover oil I collect in a small bowl and use for cooking.

If it is animal fat, it will generally solidify. If I can be bothered, I will put it aside in a bowl and use for cooking - it is usually quite flavoursome but I try not to use too much at once as it is unhealthy. Otherwise, I'd scrape the solidified fat into the food waste bin and wipe the rest up from the tray/put with kitchen towels which also go into food waste bin.

Waterlemon · 24/03/2019 22:42

We pour it into a glass jar, then once full, scope it out into a food waste bag. If its very liquid we line bag with kitchen roll or stale bread. We do this on bin day as our food waste is collected very early, usually before 730am.

jimmyhill · 24/03/2019 22:57

Down the sink. Life's too short.

MitziK · 24/03/2019 22:59

DP puts it into an empty jar and it gets chucked out when it's full. There would be a separate jar for things that you'd actually want to keep, such as Duck Fat.

I remember Granddad having an earthenware pot for Dripping.

My mother thought that kind of stuff was Common, so decanted sunflower oil back into the plastic bottle after using it. Oh God, the stench of that oil.

Thinking about it, if we ever have enough money to buy some beef (I have never had a proper roast beef joint, as I've never been able to afford it), I'd want to save as much of it as possible - so I might as well keep an eye out for a dripping pot in the charity shops.

honeylulu · 24/03/2019 23:03

Tip into bin (it solidifies.) NOT down the bloody sink. That's what makes fatbergs, doh!

PickAChew · 24/03/2019 23:05

Sliw6hamd clap for Jimmy.

I don't generate much fat but what I do have, I usually wrap up in non recyclable packaging, tip in to a bag of stale bread, or whatever. I've kna jered so many oven trays with sausages and bacon that I cook those on a layer of foil {in said knackered tins) anyhow, so screw up the whole lot to dispose of.

Small amounts I mop up with kitchen paper.

PickAChew · 24/03/2019 23:05

That was a late night slow hand clap.
