I ask because I do and I feel like the only one! I was disagnosed sometime ago by an unsympathetic dermatologist who sent me away with some fact sheets with alarming photos and a bunch of prescriptions to but and not much advice.

If you also suffer what are somethings you have learnt or used for your condition? Do you have 'flare ups'? After using Dr Google im feeling abit worried about the future of my skin having read its only treatable not cureable Sad

I do. Acne rosacea as opposed to flushing. I’ve literally never had clear skin, but as everyone wore make up in school I never really realised it.

It really upsets me. My skin is actually pretty nice now, just reddened Sad.

Basically I use very bland stuff but any agitation of my skin makes it red. My skin looks at its best when I’m having a lazy day and haven’t had a wash or anything Hmm.

I’ve just bought some Korean skincare stuff from TK Maxx to try as tbh everything has the same effect on my skin so there’s no real reason to stick to bland stuff.

Which factor 50 do people recommend? I can't find one that doesn't make me look like an oil slick (and feel disgusting) or that doesn't iritate my skin...

Iseverynametaken · 25/03/2019 11:12

@Sunny525 I have found the Thelios by La Roche really good. I use to avoid suncream as I couldn't stand the feeling on my skin but this is great. Thank you to everyone for the replies some good recommendations here I will check out. Also so nice to know it appears more common than I thought. Its hard being the only person in my friendshio group who has ever suffered with problem skin and who feels they need to hide behind makeup Sad

I have mild rosacea as has my Dad. Red blotchy skin, the odd broken capillary and spot. I also get very dry eyes. To be honest I ignore mine. I find makeup just makes my skin oily, itchy and spotty so I don't use it. I wash with plain water and use an unscented moisturiser.

Bobbybobbins · 25/03/2019 11:46

I have it mainly on the end of my nose as my cheeks have cleared up now. Definitely lack of sleep is the biggest factor for me. Can't use any moisturiser with active ingredients.

Sunny525 · 25/03/2019 11:48

Iseverynametaken thank you I will give that a try.
I am beginning to lose hope of finding anything non-greasy that isn't ridiculously expensive. It's quite expensive to keep trying things and finding that they are not right.

FuckertyBoo · 25/03/2019 11:52

Yep! It’s stress and hormones for me. Also red wine, which I don’t especially like anyway, so that’s ok with me. I seem to be able to drink white and even rose without a flare up though. I have no idea why red does it!

There is apparently some link to gluten and dairy too. I am gluten free for another reason, but my skin has been ok since I went off it. It’s never better than ok tbh, but that’s fine with me.

RaspberryRuffless · 25/03/2019 11:52

I have rosacea. It was really bad a while ago. My GP was actually shocked how inflamed my skin was. I’ve been on Lymecycline for over a year now and I still look a little bit red, but miles better than it was, no spots or painful lumps. I use Aveeno daily too which helps the dryness. I get the occasional flare up but still nowhere near as bad as it was, not sure what causes them, I don’t drink, don’t eat spicy food and I hate the heat!

FuckertyBoo · 25/03/2019 11:58

Yeah, I had Lymecycline for mine recently. I think it was hormonal contraception and stress that made it flare up this time.

The Lymecycline worked a treat and I’ve ditched the hormonal contraception in favour of condoms... and (sort of) abstinence iykwim. TMI? Sorry.

Ditto66 · 25/03/2019 12:31

Flushing has improved massively since becoming vegan. As pp says think it can be connected to dairy. See before and after pics of Bill Clinton, who's also gone vegan and become much less red faced!
I still can't tolerate a lot of products on my face. Water makes me flare! Mycellar water for cleansing is great.

lulla12345 · 25/03/2019 12:40

There is a beauty blogger called talented lex who is very good. She also runs a Facebook group. I've just done a private prescription for soolantra and I've tried all skin care brands!

littlepeas · 25/03/2019 12:50

There’s a bit of trial and error involved with skincare I think. I use cold pressed rosehip oil at night and vitamin c serum and mineral sunscreen during the day - very little else, sometimes a bit of extra moisturiser when I need it. I never exfoliate - this only means disaster! I don’t drink wine at all now - it’s a huge trigger for me - I still drink beer, but only once or twice a week. I don’t have hot showers and never go in steam rooms/saunas/hot tubs.

BoobiesToTheRescue · 25/03/2019 12:53

Following for when I get time to read it later.

Yes I have it I think. Alcohol, heat and stress cause the flare ups.

MissEliza · 25/03/2019 13:49

I feel like I've found my people! Stress definitely makes mine worse, which is annoying because that's not so easy to control. It's frustrating having to be so careful with what I put on my face. I keep going back to Avene because that's what works but I never feel their cleansers really cleanse. I've started using Superdrug Vitamin E oil cleanser and I'm really happy with that so far.

Iseverynametaken · 25/03/2019 19:52

Stress is a huge one it seems for most people. I still remember my first real flare early last year. For months on end my cheeks were swollen, red & hot daily it was horrible. I also live in a hot climate so the summer months are difficult I definitely feel more comfortable in other seasons! I follow Talented Lex on social media and she is really fab.

Are most of you fair skinned? My derm who was very blunt said you fit the bill for it - european descent & fair hair and skin. Apparently it is much more prevalent in that category. Does anyone else suffer symptoms aside from their face? I have noticed I seem to also flush on my neck and chest and Im now wondering if it could be from previous sun damage Confused

Azaleic acid and lymcycline helped mine, (metrondazole gel made it a lot worse),but then I came off the antibiotics when TTC and it’s not great again at the moment. Can someone share a link of how to get a private prescription for Soolantra? Had read about demodex mites but hadn’t realised there was a treatment. Do those who use soolantra use it alongside any other prescription meds or just on its own?

Cautionsharpblade · 26/03/2019 08:26

Check out the Kalme range at Skin Shop.
I find heading off any triggers help - overheating, alcohol, very spicy food, and sun on my face. Fresh air seems to help, the more time I spend outside the better my skin.

BuggyWanker · 26/03/2019 10:10

Folowing - I have the most awful, lumpy, red, sore skin. I haven't but been to the doctors about it yet because I'm worried they won't take me seriously. Pretty sure mines hormonal as it started during pregnancy, but any strongly perfumed toiletries make it worse.

mindutopia · 26/03/2019 10:39

You can also get it in your eyes. I have it sometimes in the one eye on the side where my face flares up (never have it on the other cheek or eye). My whole eye goes red and burns, same as my face. It's awful. Nothing you can put in your eyes really, though my GP did give me antibiotic drops (I'm not sure it did anything), but same lifestyle changes help. I can imagine you can get it other places as well.

cranstonmanor · 26/03/2019 12:57

I had it lasered and it's so much better now.

cranstonmanor · 26/03/2019 12:58

I avoid alcohol thpugg, that also really helps

RomanyQueen1 · 26/03/2019 13:00

OP I had this and my dh has HS.
Mine has completely gone and dh HS is manageable atm.
All made possible by satin pillowcases and sheets if you can afford/cope with them.

mrsjackrussell · 26/03/2019 18:02

Yes I'm fair skinned and iv been told that too.
