To think this reeks and ask how to clean it?

First house with baby ds and the last owner was a smoker who seems to have smoked inside, with carpets, so it stank.

We moved in 3 months ago and have been ripping out the carpets upstairs and have noticed instant improvement - yay! However have just taken out the one in the downstairs office and it still stinks! Doing the sniff test, we think it's the double radiator, it must have smoky dust trapped in it!

How do we clean this? DH not keen to get it wet as it will then rust. Any ideas?

Does the top grill come off, ours are screwed in, then Hoover it and make a long stick with a piece of scouring pad on it and wipe down the inside, it wont rust.

Hairdryer blowing down and hoover at the bottom to suck it up.

I'm surprised you bought the house if it stank of smoke.

I have one of these for behind radiators and in between the fins. If its really smelly, you could use it damp or spray it with some pledge or something before you poke it around.

I would spray with a 50/50 mix of water and fabric conditioner when it’s on

@CustardySergeant great location, great price, great house - it was just the smoke (nice attempt at covering with air freshener Envy). We gathered it was the carpets that held the odour and it has been so far... just this one radiator seems to hold some residue.

You can slide the ends off (upwards) and then lift the top off to get inside. Get one of those tools for cleaning radiators that looks like a long bottle brush?

speakout · 24/03/2019 14:46

Radiators are relatively cheap to replace- if nothing else works you may want to consider that.

Her0utdoors · 24/03/2019 14:49

There are videos on YouTube for how to take different types of radiator apart. Then you can give it a good wash down... sugar soap, vinegar and water, lemon juice, bicarb, just guessing. It's extremely satisfy. Lake land do a brush for getting into radiators.
