AIBU to put a bag of coffee beans on Freecycle?

I accidentally bought a bag of coffee beans when in Waitrose, thinking it was ground coffee. I only noticed about a month later when taking it out the cupboard to use.

As I don’t have the right machine for coffee beans, I was thinking of putting the packet on Freecycle or a similar site, so someone else can enjoy them. DH thinks it’s more hassle than it’s worth for such a small/cheap item and says I should just throw it away. It only cost around £3 or something, but I can’t stand waste and am loathe to chuck it!

AIBU?

Put it on! If someone comes to collect them they obviously think it’s worth... & I agree I’d feel bad to throw them away!

It's your time so as long as you're happy.

Can't see you'll get any takers though

Use the OLIO App instead, it's like freecycle but for food Grin

burritofan · 23/03/2019 19:01

Have you looked at Olio – food sharing app. Definitely don't chuck it, the environment is worth the hassle! At a pinch you could pour the beans into the compost bin and give the worms a proper caffeine jolt...

Charity shop?

Staff room?

Drainage in a plant pot? I notice Costa Coffee gives bags of grounds away for free as part of a soil improvement programme

You can grind coffee beans in a blender www.homegrounds.co/grinding-coffee-beans-in-weird-things/

ncagain222 · 23/03/2019 19:06

I’ve never heard of Olio - it looks great, thanks for the tip.

We don’t have a coffee machine at work so no use there unfortunately!

Just stick it in the food bank trolley the next time you go to the supermarket

HarrysOwl · 23/03/2019 19:10

OLIO is great, I always list my fridge contents before I go on holiday (stuff that would spoil) - or opened stuff that DH has tried & doesn't like. I hate waste too.

planesinthesky · 23/03/2019 19:12

I’d snap them up if I saw them on Freecycle. I bet you’ll have several people interested.

Etino · 23/03/2019 19:12

Waitrose would take it back.

Vitalogy · 23/03/2019 19:14

To save waiting in/listening out when people collect put items at the side of your porch if you have one, or on the door step in a bag. I had a massive bag of rice that'd only had a bit used, someone collected it.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 23/03/2019 19:15

If you put it on FreeCycle I am sure the item will be taken.

youaremyrain · 23/03/2019 19:15

Good idea to put it in the food bank collection.

Although you'll be surprised what gets a lot of interest on freecycle, my most popular listing was a bag of cat litter

Alongwaytogo · 23/03/2019 19:18

Food bank!

S1naidSucks · 23/03/2019 19:19

I’m another one suggesting the food bank. Just because someone has financial difficulties now, doesn’t mean they don’t own a coffee grinder and machine, from better times.

Or buy a coffee grinder from Argus. Lovely fresh ground coffee. Yum.

Poppy123xyz · 23/03/2019 20:02

I did the same thing last month. Waitrose took it back and refunded me no problem.
