To beg for chickenpox suggestions?

Posting here for traffic and also because I'm at my wits end. 2 year old and its the first bout of chickenpox we've experienced.

Can all you sage and wise Mums, Dads and otherwise caregivers hit me with suggestions for lotions, baths and other ways to take the itch away? It seems to be getting worse rather than better

Another for the oats sock! Add some bicarbonate of soda too, that also helped alongside the oats, the vira gel another bite for and antihistamine piriton. And a lot of love, poor thing x

Shuggas · 22/03/2019 21:11

Vote not bite! Blush

FrozenMargarita17 · 22/03/2019 21:12

Poxclin was quite nice for my dd. She was very little and it was awful for her. It's a nice mousse

Theoscargoesto · 22/03/2019 21:20

bicarbonate of soda in the bath seconded -works a treat

Byebyefriend · 22/03/2019 21:23

Eurax cream
Porridge oats in bath (in a muslin/sock)

nespressowoo · 22/03/2019 21:24

Poxclin

Vinorosso74 · 22/03/2019 21:26

Poxclin is wonderful. I had chicken pox at the same time as DD so gave it a good test. The Poxclin is easy to apply and soothes immediately. I always recommend it on these threads.

Bicarb of soda in luke warm bath, whole tub of the stuff straight in the bath. Amazing. Pat dry gently. Even gave ds a bath at 3am, much better than creams and lotions.

spongebunnyfatpants · 22/03/2019 22:36

Chamomile is awful for them, dries them too quickly and makes them more itchy.
Poxcillen or a pox gel is much better.

dementedpixie · 22/03/2019 22:41

Do people mean calamine when they are saying chamomile? I used aqueous calamine rather than calamine lotion

babysharkah · 22/03/2019 22:57

Bicarbonate in a tepid bath.

Buy it in the chemist and you get a huge tub for a couple of quid.

Do not give ibuprofen.

Dts has horrific cp, I wish I had known about vaccination. I don't know how I didn't!

babysharkah · 22/03/2019 22:57

@dementedpixie yes calamine but I found it really dried on the spots and made it worse

Pardalis · 22/03/2019 23:07

Another vote for the oat bath. Gave amazing relief from the itching

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 22/03/2019 23:22

Spray from the chemist (it was brilliant) and oats baths( mostly for the fun factor, she loved the feel of it and squishing the oaty sock).

Ihatehashtags · 24/03/2019 15:11

Yes to all of the above and get your next child vaccinated.

APoxOnThePox · 24/03/2019 15:39

Thanks everyone! We've been doing baths a lotions, it looks awful but we are riding it out.

The vaccine isn't available on NHS here, we did ask about paying for it along with all the usual vaccinations but were advised against it by the GP.
