Just that really. Curious to know what it’s taken for others.

Grin

I passed in 2001. I remember being highly affronted that no bugger answered their phone for me to relay the news!

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 21/03/2019 17:17

Two lessons each an hour long, then took my test and passed first time .

BlythesEyes · 21/03/2019 17:21

Cosyjimjamsforautumn · 21/03/2019 17:22

MyNameIsFartacus · 21/03/2019 18:58

12 lessons - started learning in September passed test in November, passed with 4 faults - I'm not a preeny type of person but this I am proud of!

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 21/03/2019 19:03

14 lessons. Passed theory first time and practical first time.

Limensoda · 21/03/2019 19:07

I was 39 when I started to learn to drive and had loads of lessons because I lacked confidence but I passed my test first time when I was 49. At least 52 lessons I reckon.

Limensoda · 21/03/2019 19:07

40 not 49!!!

SocksInPeril · 21/03/2019 19:08

Maybe 50 lessons? Possibly more. No access to car, no driving partner or parent to show me the ropes and extremely a little nervous.

Been driving for 2.5 years and all going well so far. Smile

formerbabe · 21/03/2019 19:09

Over 100 over a period of six years...passed third time Blush

formerbabe · 21/03/2019 19:11

@HumptyNumptyNooNoo

Two lessons each an hour long, then took my test and passed first time

Can I be nosey and ask what year this was? guessing circa 1970

DieSchottin93 · 21/03/2019 19:14

Mines probably into three figures. Started learning at 17, passed at 21 but had some time off when I was at uni including a year spent abroad. Driving does not come naturally to me and it took six goes to pass my practical Blush Almost five years on and I've barely driven at all, I really really don't want to get my own car and am putting it off for as long as possible.

Still18atheart · 21/03/2019 19:14

120 lessons
5 driving instructors
4 theory tests
3 driving tests
Over a period of 5 and a half years

randomchap · 21/03/2019 19:18

40 hours of lessons with an instructor and about 100 hours of practice with a friend.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 21/03/2019 19:20

@formerbabe lol - 1990's ! (I grew up driving around on private land from a young age !)

soberfabulous · 21/03/2019 19:21

12 lessons when I was 16 and passed first time. I didn't have a car to practice in.

There was no theory test then though!

My motivation was the price of lessons and the fact that I lived on a tiny island with rubbish public transport. Driving was freedom!

formerbabe · 21/03/2019 19:21

Oh ok,so it's not like you had only had two hours of driving experience then passed you test?! That sounded unlikely to me!

badg3r · 21/03/2019 19:22

Ten lessons plus a LOT of practise with DH. Passed first time.

Mustbetimeforachange · 21/03/2019 19:25

9 hours of lessons. No theory test in those days. The kids had about 35 each, I think.

Penners99 · 21/03/2019 19:29

5 lessons

Time40 · 21/03/2019 19:34

250 lessons over two years.

Mind you, I did pass first time ...

bliminy · 21/03/2019 19:40

I had 10 x 1-hour lessons and a bit of practice.

DD1 had 5 x 2-hour lessons then did 70+ hours of driving, which is the norm here.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 21/03/2019 19:43

Five hours a day for four days, test on the Friday, passed. Not with one of these intensive driving schools, just an independent instructor. He was brilliant, used to be a black cabbie. Made me drive all over London, not the test routes locally (home counties), said if I could drive there and keep my cool I could drive anywhere. He was right

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 21/03/2019 19:44

This was in 2006 so I had to do hazard perception, theory and show and tell questions
