... To think this is a ridiculous use of police time and resourses.

I was watching BBC breakfast news this morning. There was an elderly lady on there who, 'wanted to know what it was like to be arrested'. So a police car was sent to her and they pretended to arrest her, with a trip in the police car with lights etc. Does anyone else think that this is a ridiculous use of police time and resourses? Especially when people are getting burgled and nobody is coming out to them for several hours, if not days. I appreciate she was a lovely lady and no doubt had a lovely time, but surely they have more important things to do.

Hey lighten up, I thought this was quite lovely!

I can forgive the old lady. I think this sort of thing is a far more dangerous misuse of police time and resources;

MArchinupanddown. Rejecting sexist stereotypes and magical thinking does not make someone the same as the EDL.

We go to nurseries, schools etc and take an ambulance that's free but we have to do it in our own time and don't get paid. They just ask for volunteers. This may well have been the same sort of thing and if not I really can't get worked up about an hour out of a day with a PCSO and one officer to make an elderly woman happy.
I expect it raised the officers morale and made them more effective for the rest of the day. Some people seem to think an outbreak of morale is a dangerous thing and we should all be miserable as sin.

He did, however, make the mistake of asking if anyone had questions and had to answer far too many questions about whether he knew PC Plum from Balamory Brilliant! What was his answer?

great PR

She is 104! Give her a break.

Better this than harassing women for daring to disagree with their ‘Bezzie mates’ or telling schools that the equality law doesn’t relate to them.

How much police time is wasted by the P.C./WPC officer who decides on a daily basis if they are male or female - someone has ‘wasted time’ organising their ID and I assume uniform to make them happy.

Garth, I think he said he’d never met him but he’d heard he was a nice guy 😂

Alsohuman · 21/03/2019 12:55

I’d rather they did this than spend time on indulging Susie Green.

Oh I am glad they didn't put her in one of those prison vans that they use for taking prisoners to court. I have been in one of those and they are grim. A 104 year old would have found that distressing rather than fun I fear.

I posted a link to this story in another thread basically saying that I thought it was lovely

Honestly, IMO giving a 104 year old care home resident an exciting time was worth a couple of hours of a PC and a PCSO's time.

Also think that doing something like that is community engagement which is a totally legitimate activity for the Police and that the 2 officers involved probably had a good day that day too. Their job is damn hard I expect, if they are a bit happier at work as a result, who loses?

No prison van Grin just a police car. I did wonder if they did the "head down" pat thingy to her when she got in the car tho? Grin. I imagine not!
