To despair at bus drivers

This is definitely probably me just needing a rant.

Have a big pram with carry got and just had the bus driver park about 3 feet from the curb - too far to make it but too close to go on the road and then up onto the bus. Call out and ask him if he could move bus closer, to be ignored - he didn't even look towards me. Eventually someone from the bus came off to help me on.

Now stood up (as there's no flip seat in the pushchair space & I'm not going to sit in priority as I don't need it) for a 30 min bus journey while he drives like it's Wacky Races.

Also had a couple of instances when I was pregnant - including one where I rang the bell with my belly as he pulled off before I had sat down (I was heavily pregnant so it was quite obvious)!

I get they have a timetable to adhere to but do they really want an injury on their conscience?

Some seem to be just complete and utter arseholes.

Im getting sick of them parking right infront of the bins at the bus stop so I cant get off with the pram when they open the doors as there is a big bin right outside the doors.

I have an old lady trolley (I'm not quite yet) and when I emerge from the supermarket, it is sometimes full (big capacity) and obviously (I think) heavy. They very rarely ever lower the entrance floor which would only take them 30 seconds so I have to heave a great weight up a height of about one foot to get it on the bus. No-one else helps me either. I've got to the stage when I have to carefully gauge my shop so I don't overload the bag - a bit awkward when you live about 3 miles from the nearest big supermarket and are often working all week so can't go again later in the week for things you couldn't carry.

The bus driver closed the doors on me whilst i was getting the buggy of the bus. Baby was on the bus and i was on the pavement with my arms stuck in the doors..

Slightly off topic but anyone can sit in the priority seats, just have to give it up if someone who needs it gets on.

Yeah but then not everyone asks you for the seat and complains when you don't give it up.

Totally agree. Or they pull in at an angle so you can't even load straight. And don't lower the bus.

Driver, my kid is clearly pass toddlerhood, his pushchair is clearly large and I've got a ton of crap attached to it. Lower the bus!!

SleepingStandingUp · 19/03/2019 16:13

However I also have awesome drivers on our main route who will wait for me to get to the bus, who will wait fore to park the buggy, who say hi off the bus (OK weird but nice), who have naughtily let three on when the weather is crap, have made people fold their empty buggies to get us in etc.

MumofTinies · 19/03/2019 16:57

Yanbu OP, it really is depressing using public transport with a pushchair, drivers often treat you like you are shit on thier shoe. I'm getting my own car soon, it's a shame we will have another car on the road creating more pollution but I am fed up.

On the bus that I use regularly, there are some really nice drivers. There's the one that always waits for me when I'm trying to cross the busy road to get to the bus stop, and the one who always smiles at me and says 'hello' when I get on. Or the one who waits for me to sit down before charging off (I'm disabled, walk with sticks and my balance is not great on a moving vehicle).

On the other hand, there are also a few arse holes. Like the one who never gives me enough time to get off the bus and slams the doors on me when I'm barely clear. One time, the door actually smacked really hard, into my shoulder. When I went round to the entrance door and told him what he'd done,he just shrugged and said 'What do you want me to do about it?'. Or the one who snapped 'So what?' at me when I pointed out that he had the destination for the journey in the other direction stated on the front of the bus. OK,I,and many others know this, but there are an awful lot of people from abroad who use this bus to get to the airport, who wouldn't know. They wouldn't be too happy at ending up in a town in Surrey rather than the airport!
