To ask to share scams and if anyone has had this HMRC scam?

Just had a call from an 0300 number on my mobile very similar to HMRCs number.

The automated voice told me there was a fraud case opened under my name (no name given) to press 1 to be connected otherwise if I terminated the call I would shortly be arrested. I hung up and rang the number back. An automated service told me to input my 10 digit tax code if I had it and wait to speak to an advisor. I then hung up again.

This is a new one on me. Anyone else had this scam or any other scams? I get them on my landline but it’s always bt disconnecting my internet service. This one was actually pretty scary sounding.

I heard about this type just before I was buying so I actually called my solicitor to confirm all bank details. They heard about it too so I didn't look too crazy

I just generally say politely, please hold for a moment: then I place the phone under the speaker on my computer and then whack a bit of death metal on you tube and leave them to it, sometimes I go and do some shopping. The longest I've had someone hold out is around three songs.

I do love the Microsoft guys as when I have a quiet moment it means I'm rarely bored, I could wind them up for days. The car crash guys are classic too.

DS used to love to talk when he was little so we sometimes gave the phone to him, they always stop calling once they're subjected to conversations about biscuits, fire engines and various children's programs. The best one was when he wet himself and just announced to the unfortunate soul at the other end 'all wet, all wet' and went off to rectify matters.

I did see the article and it sounds like they're trying to be frightening as the coersion tactic doesn't work that well any more. Fortunately my dad is as sharp as a needle and an ex-police officer!

There's a people postcode lottery scam letter doing the rounds saying you've won a big amount. It's very convincing but still a scam. Always contact the genuine company to check.
