Apparently he is the favourite among voters. Link here.

After his comments yesterday I think/hope this may change

reallybadidea · 16/03/2019 14:04

Anyone? Really? Even Michael Gove?

Olga321 · 16/03/2019 14:05

Well, as the other candidates are likely to include Gove and Hunt ... who would you vote for?

Holidayshopping · 16/03/2019 14:07

Give
Hunt
JRM
Boris
Morgan

I can’t bear any of them, to be honest.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 16/03/2019 14:10

It’s so depressing , Holiday isn’t it?

Can I add Penny Mourdaunt to the no list after this weeks MN debacle too?

Considering the audience he appeals to, it may increase his popularity. He's been making controversial/ abhorrent remarks for years, the average Tory voter must agree with him.

longwayoff · 16/03/2019 14:18

What a choice. Almost feel sorry for the Tories although Labour pretty similar for contenders and Libs have nobody at all. There is nobody, regardless of party, who would be a party leader to be trusted. Keir Starmer looks most dependable out of the rabble on show. So no, wouldn't sign up without a written money back guarantee that Bozza - or Spaffer as we like to refer to him - was definitely out.

Figmentofmyimagination · 16/03/2019 17:31

Raab will be the next leader, would be my guess, more’s the pity. They are all equally vile but you can see him appealing to your typical Conservative party member as he looks like a nice young man.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 16/03/2019 21:33

It's hard to see any of them as a convincing leader. Plus the wiser ones may chose to wait for the next contest.

It reminds me of John Major winning mainly becausehe wasn't Michael Portillo.

I think Amber Rudd will be a future leader

Not just yet

It will be Boris

Peregrina · 16/03/2019 21:57

Been out all day. What has Boris said?
Why the Tories like such a tosser is beyond me, but why people vote for the current Tory party is also beyond me.

longwayoff · 16/03/2019 22:05

Peregrina, paraphrasing, "£60 million spaffed up against the wall on historic child abuse enquiry".

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 16/03/2019 22:06

Amber Rudd shouldn’t be in the running. She had a majority of 346 at the last election. She could potentially lose her seat at the next one. I think it could be creepy Gavin Williamson as the next leader of the Conservatives. As for Labour, Keir Starmer can’t be trusted, he uses far too much hair gel!!

JockTamsonsBairns · 16/03/2019 22:11

I didn't think Tory party members voted for their leader?

TheGodOfSmallThings · 16/03/2019 22:16

The members do vote, but from a shortlist of two selected by Tory MPs.

MattFreisWeatherReport · 16/03/2019 23:02

I think you need to have been a member of the Conservative party for 3 months to participate in voting for a leader, so you'd better get your skates on, OP. But...is it a brush you really want to be tarred with??

Very difficult to think of a single one of them you'd want to be in charge of the country really. I almost prefer the idea of Theresa May staying on. At least they all hate her too.

Lidington at a pinch.

And yes, Starmer for the Labour party. I'd do more than vote for him. Wink

givemesteel · 16/03/2019 23:30

It absolutely won't be Gove as the Tories won't want another lame duck like May and they know he's unelectable. I doubt he'd have the audacity to put himself forward again after last time.

Also he's a brexiter who has backed May's deal, so remainers hate him and most brexiters also hate him.

In my opinion it will be between Sajid and Boris.

SisterMichael · 16/03/2019 23:33

Apparently a lot of Tory MPs hate Boris and will do anything to stop him becoming leader, so there’s at least one hope he wouldn’t get on the list that goes out to the members.

StoneofDestiny · 16/03/2019 23:34

YWBU to put any money into the Tory Party. We are in the Brexit mess because of them and now they've got the sectarian DUP to prop them up.

Quintella · 16/03/2019 23:36

Trouble is, all the likely candidates are total shitebags too.

Unlikely to happen but I think I'd laugh for approximately 6 months solid if by some fluke Jo Johnson got the top job over Boris Johnson.

Where is Jo Johnson btw? He seems to have suddenly gone to ground. I wonder if he's plotting.

longwayoff · 17/03/2019 07:37

Quintella, things brighten up. It would be immensely entertaining to observe a Plantagenet style throne snatch in the Johnson family. If politicians can't govern adequately then the very least we can expect is amusement.

DonaldTwain · 17/03/2019 07:42

No, op, I’m re joining for precisely this reason (left over Brexit). We can’t have both main parties controlled by comedy figures.

Peregrina · 17/03/2019 07:56

I can't see it being The Saj, unless they elected him as a token Muslim to try to show that they weren't a bunch of xenophobes at the core.

ForalltheSaints · 17/03/2019 08:24

You need enough support from MPs to get to the ballot of party members, which he will most likely not get. If he was leader I would argue for the Royal Prerogative to be exercised.

lljkk · 17/03/2019 08:28

I rejoined Labour precisely to vote against Corbyn... Fat lot of good that did me!
