What the title says really, we are considering a trip but don't know anybody whose been just wondering what peoples experiences of it was? We like a mixture of exploring some nice food and spending time relaxing either in the hotel or nice cafes etc.

It's the least "German" feeling city in Germany IMO. I wouldn't go for longer than 2 days unless I was going for the Christmas Markets, personally. People are friendly though, and there are a few good things to see as others have mentioned. I much prefer Munich or Berlin. Smile

We also visited Wuppertal, Frankfurt, Dresden, Berlin, Munich, Fulda, Eisenbach and Wurzburg. (Hope auto-correct hasn't let me down with any of those!!!) Dresden is very interesting, the old town (bombed flat but rebuilt Disney-style to look old) and the new town (lots of East German Cold War-style stuff) are completely different and separated by the Elbe river. There is a fun Museum of East German communist stuff in the new town and lots of arty hippy stuff. The old town is full of tour parties going on tours of the rebuilt churches, etc. The Gemaldegalerie art museum has a quite astounding collection. Lots of shiny new shops and hotels and restaurants in the old town. The railway station has a new Norman Foster makeover. DH liked the Transport Museum a lot. The city had a nice friendly feel. Would recommend Dresden for an interesting few days. But not in winter when it is absolutely freezing apparently.
