To not finish my course of antibiotics?

On Wednesday I was diagnosed with tonsillitis and prescribed erythromycin. I've been told to take 2 tablets 4 times a day so 2000mg so I've taken 7 lots so far (so 14 tablets). Since yesterday afternoon I've been in agony with stomach cramps which just seem to be getting worse and I really don't think I can go through the weekend with 5dc in this pain.

I would never usually consider stopping antibiotics early but I seem to have worse symptoms from the abs then the infection right now.

Aibu to stop?

Only your Doctor will know if it is safe to stop your antibiotics. Talk to them before you do anything.

memorial it's frustrating for you to read, but this is a forum, so people will share their experiences and knowledge, whether that knowledge is ultimately correct, or incorrect. To be honest, the phrase 'you don't know what you don't know' springs to mind. Approaching this type of thread with arrogance and hostility won't help anyone seek more appropriate help. It would be much better to use your soft skills, which as a GP you'll have developed well.

Had a similar thing recently with clarithromycin and nausea / vomiting, i thought the tonsillitis was really clearing up so stopped taking the anti bs. 3 days later the tonsillitis was back and worse so I had to go back to the drs tail between my legs and plead for an alternative. They persuaded me to try a half dose which I took with loads of milk (thanks mumsnet) and that did the trick.
