Just been to cash machine- came away with nothing because I can't remember my PIN number. AT ALL. that was 15 mins ago and I still can't remember it. Had the same pin number for the last 3 years. AIBU to be concerned. Also how am I going to get some cash out now?

My mother decided that the age of 67 that she was getting gaga when she signed her maiden name on a cheque after being married to the same man for forty-three years! The bank returned it, very politely, asking whether she would authorise the payment by countersigning it.

Movinghouseatlast · 15/03/2019 17:58

It is a perimenpause symptom, yes.

Like clumsiness and the bloody rage.

bettytaghetti · 15/03/2019 18:13

Saw this headline in an email and I'm going to go with it. Intelligent enough not to bother looking at the crap pseudo data they will have used to come to that conclusion! Grin

Have also recently done a complete blank on one of my PIN numbers, which was really frustrating, not to mention embarrassing, when stood in line trying to pay. Took days for it to come back to me! And that comes from someone who enjoys winding DH up by knowing both my Amex & Mastercard numbers off by heart, just to scare him into worrying how much I've been spending online. Grin.

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 15/03/2019 18:24

I was going to post an insightful comment
But I’ve forgotten it Grin

Still not remembered it......

I'm 47 and did this recently. Luckily I had another card I could use. I did remember eventually, about 2 weeks later, completely out of the blue I just knew what it was again!

Frickssake · 15/03/2019 19:00

Suppose one plus is that, if I get called from someone pretending to be from my bank asking for details, I can genuinely tell them I've forgotten ( not that I would entertain a call like that anyway ...)

😳 I forgot ds's password to get onto his account on my pc. I had to hand the keyboard over to DH to enter it. Next time I did it, I remembered it OK but it was alarming how completely the number part had just gone. I struggle with numbers more as they are meaningless, words are easier to remember. I expect my pin numbers will be the next to blip

I'm 48

Frickssake · 15/03/2019 19:20

I have news!

I can now remember it!!! Yay!!!

I'm 46. Yesterday I stood up in front of a large and very important group of people at work and introduced myself by my maiden name. I haven't used that name since my first marriage in 1995. No clue why, i just heard my mouth say the word and that was that. Absolutely bizarre.

I've done similar to op with bank cards, couldn't have told you my pin if my life depended on it.

GP ran blood tests recently and says I'm nowhere near menopause . So apparently I'm just losing my marbles?

Cosmos45 · 15/03/2019 19:24

Definitely a perimenopause symptom, along with the rage as Movinghouseatlast mentioned. As well as anxiety, the night sweats, inability to remember words in the middle of a conversation, hair in all the wrong places (my chin currently has more hair than on my head).. It's such a joyful time of life.

Fishwifecalling · 15/03/2019 19:30

I was seriously worried for a time - until all my friends reassured me that they are the same.

ooooohbetty · 15/03/2019 19:41

This happens to me. But it happens more when I'm stressed at work. I forget PIN numbers, peoples names, what I'm doing etc. It's horrible and makes me think I'm galloping towards dementia or Alzheimer's.

MyNameIsArthur · 15/03/2019 20:33

It's happened to me quite a few times OP. I also forgot how to get home one day. Thst worried me at the time. My memory is quite bad anyway though. I don't think you have anything to worry about but check with your doctor if you are concerned. Keep a diary of episodes of forgetfulness or confusion or doing odd things (like putting your socks in the fridge instead of the washing machine or something like that!). Hopefully forgetting your PIN us just a one off thing like we all do

GregoryPeckingDuck · 15/03/2019 20:36

I’m half your age. This kind of thing happens to me frequently. Sleep deprivation. I also forget my own name sometimes Blush

rightreckoner · 15/03/2019 20:37

I have done this. Especially when overloaded. I forgot my car reg the other day at one of those car parks where you have to key it in to get a ticket. I had to walk back to my car to see what it was.

It’s menopause plus sheer bloody overload.

Tinkerbell456 · 15/03/2019 20:55

Bloody well hope so! I’m 54, and my memory is a bit rubbish at times.

BMW6 · 15/03/2019 21:04

I am 61 today.

Do I come here often?

Weetabixandshreddies · 15/03/2019 21:15

Please give me some hope - does it get better after the menopause?

BMW6 · 15/03/2019 21:16

Nope.

BMW6 · 15/03/2019 21:17

Sorry.

Weetabixandshreddies · 15/03/2019 21:19

No - really? Is this it then?

Tinkerbell456 · 15/03/2019 21:39

Weetbix, I’d love to tell you whether you come here often, but I can’t remember.

Surroundedbycats · 15/03/2019 22:38

Op I couldn't remember my Middle Name at 35 when filling in a mortgage application.

Lack of sleep at the time but I think I read some research once about why the brain seemingly forgets unimportant things (!) when o reloaded/stressed/ tired. It's like a protection. Really interesting read
