Can anyone persuade me to get a toilet brush?

I've never owned a toilet brush and I hate the idea of them. Something that you clean the toilet with just hanging around the house.

But my new toilet seems to catch the poo

They cost 50p. Try one and if you don't like it you are 50p down.

Loo brushes are fine until tradesmen use your loo.

True, I had seen a pretty fancy design one that matched some other accessories!

a loo brush allows you to clean after each use (should you need to) rather than flush wait flush again wait again etc if there is poo stuck to the side of the bowl. It also allows you to spread the cleaner/bleach around the whole of the toilet.

agree that if you have one you need to change the brush very frequently to ensure it doesn't get smelly or dirty itself.

They sit in a container at the corner of your bathroom you can clean them with flushing i put some toiltet cleaner in the pot and the can be replaced i never know how people without them clean their toilets

So how do you presently clean the inside of your toilet of poo residue?

Hate them. I just rely on giving the rim and seat a good wipe with anti-bac and pouring lots of bleach round the bowl.

Whenever we've had them I've ended up throwing them away rather than trying to clean them. Sometimes I've forgotten about them and lifted the brush out of its container to find it's been sitting in water and has all sorts of dubious bits stuck to it 🤮

Tradesmen are probably fine using the loo until they find one with no loobrush and they panic because the implement they would normally use to clean up after themselves is absent.

Toilet brushes aren't 'hanging round the house'. They live next to the toilet, so they are available for the task they are designed for.

If you leave them in the bowl during the flush, they get a good rinse off and you can always clean it by leaving it sitting in the toilet or the pot it comes in with bleach in.

Don't ever use a brush for skid marks, they are disgusting if shitty. All toilet users are trained to use a piece of toilet paper and leave the area above the water line clean. Not hard. I use rubber gloves and a disposable cloth to clean, only occasionally use the brush with cleaner under the rim. I suppose other households have different hygiene, and a guest might use the brush. Skids are only tricky if users walk away and leave them to dry, yuck,

I just pour a tiny bit of bleach down the toilet or use those toilet bloo things.

Either people don't poop in their toilets at home or they use cloths or wipes and bin them after one use.

I have a toilet duck disposable clippy one, it's brilliant.

@SleepingstandingUp years ago I watched an episode of "How clean is your house" or something similar where they told you to use a toilet roll or a cloth. However I discovered my own toilet has a design which means any poo residue is skid marks at the bottom so toilet cleaner removes it.

Mine ‘hangs around’ always in bleach.

How do you properly clean with out a brush?

I'm going to disgust you all here. But I have a beautiful toilet brush set that must be pushing 37 years old at this stage. It doesn't stink, it's not discoloured, it cleans the toilet and looks lovely standing next to it.

How else do people clean under the rim or the dreaded poo streaks. We have a biocycle septic tank and cant use bleach on a regular basis.

I find the abhorrence of toilet brushes on here a bit mental!

I've always understood it thaf if you're just bleaching and not scrubbing/wiping then you're potentially only cleaning the surface germs leaving residue that you now can't see because it's been bleached white. :/

I use Wilko or IKEA metal brushes with holder that are around £2/£2.50 and change them regularly. I also leave the brush sat in toilet cleaner. The second the brush begins to discolour then it is binned.

My last 2 brushes have been a £ fromthe Tiger shop

I use a brush, and I put a bit of toilet cleaner liquid into the brush container.

Harpic white and shine bleach is very good for stains.

I hate them but relented and bought a cheap one recently as bleach wasn't getting rid of the discolouration around the bowl (not poo related). I've used it once on each loo and will bin it after another couple of uses. For bodily stains I use bleach and leave it sit a while before flushing. This works fine. However, if the skid mark is above water level I'd just use loo roll to clean it off (note to self - tell the kids to clean their own shit!).

See I don't wanna shove my hands down the loo and clean other peoples poo and I think it's weird to expect your guests to do so

When my DH has used the toilet puke I put a strong bleach down and leave it this gets rid of the bits? puke flush THEN use the brush to give it an extra good clean, I would never use it to clean the shit of the bowl 🤮

I don't have one, my ex use to use it then shove it back in the holder covered in poo....seriously. I make do with bleach, if it needs a good scrub i put on a pair of rubber gloves and get stuck in...
