When you had a bad month day?

Recently I've not had a great life. Quite a few bad news, arguments with DP, etc

On the bright side, it's almost 3 weeks since I've quit smoking! Yay me.

So what do you do? How do you keep your head up high and most importantly, how do you give yourself credit? I noticed I have a tendency to put myself down and to be kinda evil to myself....

Thanks, lovely mumsnetters!

I pour a glass of wine or gin, wear my comfy sweat pants and watch crap on Netflix as a reward to myself.

It’s actually pretty therapeutic.

ethelfleda · 14/03/2019 20:21

Eat
Drink wine
Spend money

Blush
YoThePussy · 14/03/2019 20:25

Some great ideas here, would love to go forest bathing.

When my Mum passed away what kept me going was going for walks. At the moment lovely with spring flowers coming out so worth considering. Also the ‘adult’ colouring books which were popular a couple of years ago. There was a strange satisfaction in sitting with a pack of felt pens and colouring mindlessly/mindfully for a couple of hours.

Did the gin, wine and chocolate as well but not so satisfying when you end up with spots and putting on weight!

OP you take care of yourself and remember you are the number one in your life so treat yourself.

Buy a new book to read - choose it really carefully in a proper bookshop taking plenty of time to get it right, go home, clean and tidy my bedroom really well - maybe put some flowrrs in, change sheets- or just straighten them if I can't be bothered, have a bath or shower, clean pj's, smallish snack/drink, plump up the pillows and sit up in bed wiggling my toes under the new clean sheets and read my lovely new book.

Whatjusthappenedthere · 14/03/2019 20:39

Two tiny dictators . It is. I’ve a couple of glasses of wine , 2 hot chocolates, both packets of cookies and I’m now sipping a complementary ( I hope ) elderflower liqueur that’s in a tiny “drink me”bottle that I found with two shot glasses by the bed. Big shout out to the Bull and Swan in Stamford ( outing, who cares) . Bliss, might even do this once a month. Smile

JaffacakesAreCakesNotBiscuits · 14/03/2019 20:42

Eat m all the wrong foods. Cake, choc and shite.. Then hate myself for not losing weight.

I light candles even during the day, it always cheers me.
Anything creative, or some de cluttering is therapeutic. Anything that’s a change, along everyone somewhere different.
I talk to a close friend , or I will see a therapist if I feel stuck.
I try to steer clear of food treats, because it’s a spiral for me .
Hope you feel good soon op x

Ohyesiam · 15/03/2019 10:35

Taking not along

Cuntforthebutter · 15/03/2019 10:40

I buy a new book (usually Kindle). Never fails.

MayFayner · 15/03/2019 10:46

@DontDribbleOnTheCarpet Flowers

For me it’s probably chocolate, wine and something crap on Netflix. If you had asked me this time last year I would have said yoga and running, but I seem to have hit a rut. Must try harder.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 15/03/2019 11:02

-Wine
-Netflix
-De-cluttering/rearranging a room
-A good book
-Dinner/drinks with friends
-Painting my toenails a bright colour
-Face mask/deep conditioning hair treatment
-Keeping a gratitude journal (this has helped me loads!)

  • Forcing myself to do my hair and make up no matter how crap I feel, always perks me up a bit.
  • Cinema (without DC!)
  • Going for a drive alone and singing along to my favourite music at the top of my voice.
JaceLancs · 15/03/2019 11:06

Go shopping
Drink gin
Get a new book, magazine or puzzle book and go for a long coffee to indulge
Treat myself to a facial or manicure
Luxury dinner - last night I had seared tuna with king prawns and salad mmmmmm

looondonn · 15/03/2019 11:11

AguerosAngel · 15/03/2019 11:42

Drink tea, eat cake, eat good cheese, drink nice wine, treat myself to nice skincare stuff, treat myself to new pyjamas (chronic illness do spend a lot of time in pj’s), buy beautiful flowers.

inthekitchensink · 15/03/2019 11:44

Make a candle that smells amazing. Bath with fancy bubbles. Face & hair mask. Electric blanket & clean sheets. Fresh flowers. New book. Pot of tea. Cheese, crackers & a box set.

DonnaDarko · 15/03/2019 11:46

I do yoga and meditation.

I try not to get myself down by telling myself that anything non-life-threatening is all small stuff, and I don't sweat the small stuff.

Willow2017 · 15/03/2019 12:17

I go to my favourite cafe. Coffee and a pastry and read a book for half an hour. Its bliss. The world passes me by, i lose myself in my book and enjoy a treat too. Recharges my batteries so i can face the day food shop .

Playing a game on xbox with my teens usually has me in fits of giggles in no time. One of them or both are guarenteed to say/do something to set me off laughing like a drain. Its very therapeutic 😀

Failing all of the above wine and good chocolate.

Meangirls36 · 15/03/2019 13:27

Vodka always cheers me up. Or a roast.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 15/03/2019 13:32

Read a good book.

Bubba1234 · 15/03/2019 13:35

I buy clothes
Run
Go to the gym
Yoga
Switch off social media
Long walks

thewreckofthehesperus · 15/03/2019 13:37

In your shoes I'd total up what I would've spent on cigarettes over the three weeks and spend it on something pleasant for myself. Whether it's a book, clothes or treat food! Whatever feels like a treat to you.

notangelinajolie · 15/03/2019 13:39

Watch Christmas films.

purplelass · 15/03/2019 13:43

It sounds like a cliche but exercise works for me - I love the group feelgood buzz of doing a parkrun or zumba class, and even a quick run on my own gets the endorphins going. Good way to celebrate the giving up smoking too!

Baking is good for my happy too, and gardening - I guess anything creative would be good?

Hope you find something to make you smile soon x
