To ask what to do with this top!!!

I got fresh turmeric on this top. You can see, badly, but still, the spots of yellow. I didn't realise until it had dried so I used bicarb of soda/white vinegar paste to get it out but then washed it, and it hasn't worked.

It's cotton. I love it. Any thoughts on what to do next? If I bleached the whole top, would the pattern fade?

I'm so pissed off at myself

I wouldn't bleach it. Imo curry stains (which Tbh are mostly turmeric) usually come out eventually. I would try taking some laundry liquid and really working it into the stained area before washing it again, and try washing it a few times.

But I can make no promises. Turmeric is a total pain if it stains.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 14/03/2019 13:40

Turmeric stains will come out eventually. Just use Vanish and keep washing. Or try a little spray bleach on the stain if you think it won't take the colour off the red bits.

Fatasfook · 14/03/2019 13:43

I have the same problem but with the yellow pollen from lilies, cannot get it out

Michaelbaubles · 14/03/2019 13:44

Hang it in the sun for a bit - even a sunny windowsill will do. It may take a while but the direct sunlight will fade organic stains usually.

NorthernRunner · 14/03/2019 13:46

Vanish Gold.
Dampen the top and rub in the vanish, then leave to soak in warm water for 30mins. Pop in the machine with your usual washing powder/tab/liquid whatever you use, and another scoop of vanish.
That should work first time, but if it doesn’t, I would try drying in the sun like PP suggested

NorthernRunner · 14/03/2019 13:47

Lilies do stain, I’m not sure that will ever come out fatas sorry

Bigonesmallone3 · 14/03/2019 13:51

Leave it in direct sunlight when wet for as long as possinle

paranoiamumma · 14/03/2019 13:59

Try dr beckhams stain remover , I used that on
An oil stain and worked fab .

funnystory · 14/03/2019 14:01

Rub some fairy liquid into it and lather it up. Then soak in white vinegar (put on loads) and leave for a few hours before washing normally. It worked on a curry stain in a white top of mine that I really didn't think would come out.

VeepVeep · 14/03/2019 14:05

thank you all sooooo much.

Good to know it will fade.

Turmeric - Amazing but TROUBLE.

Second drying it in the sun - something to do with the bleaching effect of free radicals created by UV.

Crankybitch · 14/03/2019 14:06

Vanish with some water and leave it in the sun

Cannotresist · 14/03/2019 14:17

Try a strong concentration of sterilising tablets have removed loads of stains this way without damaging colour

HeathRobinson · 14/03/2019 14:20

Or add a lot more turmeric in a pattern? Wink

pineappletower · 14/03/2019 14:22

Yep, sun for this. Curry, tomato and orange stains all disappear in the sun.

LucyAutumn · 14/03/2019 14:53

Vanish spray

XiCi · 14/03/2019 15:00

Vanish soap bar removed all trace of turmeric from my top

Jarstastic · 14/03/2019 16:09

Ace (colour safe bleach I.e hydrogen peroxide based) should work on it. Leave it for 15 mins before washing.
Ace has also worked on lily pollen for me.

Jarstastic · 14/03/2019 16:15

I use Ace a lot as it’s safe on cashmere, silks etc. With cottons I use vanish and I’d go along with northern runners advice with the vanish.

However, if something cotton has been washed and stain spotted later, I tend to chuck Ace at it. Literally sometimes Smile

MissSingerbrains · 14/03/2019 16:23

Another vote for sunshine. Leave it on a windowsill for a few days if the weather’s not great.

IHeartMarmiteToast · 14/03/2019 16:49

Get some Elbow Grease (I'm not taking the piss) it's yellow in a spray bottle. Can be found in home bargains and the like. Best degreaser and stain remover ever. I clean everything with it and have saved many clothes.

GreenHatHacker · 14/03/2019 16:51

Another vote for sunshine, got curry stains out of a white shirt perfectly for me.

RhiWrites · 14/03/2019 16:52

Washing up liquid is a better degreaser than Layndry liquid. Try soaking it in some of that.

KM99 · 14/03/2019 17:41

Another vote for getting into the sun. When my son was in cloth nappies we'd put them out after washing and believe me much worse stains were bleached out by the sun.

tiredandcold · 14/03/2019 17:58

Neat vinegar! Works a treat on stains
