Your GM remortgaged with the house as collateral. Easy to remortgage at any age.

the people who worry you will retire or be too ill to work before the mortgage ends, what will happen if you rent? actual question as have seen this being said a lot over the years but if you are too ill to pay the mortgage (which in my case is about £1000 a month cheaper than renting), I don't understand how you can afford to rent.

You get housing benefit you become too ill to work. Or more likely you struggle on working full time to pay the mortgage, when it would be much better for your health to work part time.

Me and my DH are planning to get a mortgage in about 7-8 years. I'm 33 and he is 45.

TBH I don't see myself retiring in my 60's (probably closer to 70-75) but I don't know if mortgage lenders will only do a term up until the government retirement age.

Plus it seems we all live so much longer now, I am in no rush!

We got ours two years ago aged 45. We were first time buyers in effect as we had sold out old house 5 years earlier and lived in rented. We didn't have any problems.

You'll get one as long as you have the deposit and income and can be sure you will manage the payments.
