To take leftover antibiotics?

I'm on immunosuppressants for my skin. This means that occasionally when I'm run down, due to having a low functioning immune system my skin starts to get infected and I need antibiotics. This has happened four times.

Every time I see the doctor I get the same dose and type of antibiotics. I've rung them but there's no appointments left today. It's not really an emergency appointment because it's not fully inflamed.

I know my skin is STARTING to be infected - it's red, burning a bit but it's not fully infected - I recognize the stages after four times!

Until I can get a doctor's appointment tomorrow hopefully WIBU to take some of the leftover medications I have? I know I'll just be prescribed more of the same as they always work, and I can't stand the burning Sad

Personally I would given it's a recurring issue.

Evilspiritgin · 13/03/2019 13:49

Could you not ring and see if they will give you a prescription?

TroysMammy · 13/03/2019 13:49

You shouldn't have any left over antibiotics. You should have taken the course you were prescribed last time. So if you take left over antibiotics this time you still aren't taking the full course. Haven't you heard about the problems of antibiotic resistance? So yes, yabu.

TheHolySmirk · 13/03/2019 13:50

I would take them.

You are as sure as anyone can be that the antibiotics you have are the most appropriate, and are unlikely to do any harm.

WildCherryBlossom · 13/03/2019 13:51

What TroysMammy said! You should never have left over antibiotics because you are supposed to finish the course you are prescribed. Each and every time!!! 🤦‍♀️

Wolfiefan · 13/03/2019 13:53

I agree with Troys.
And this is why antibiotic resistance is a huge bloody problem.
Also speak to your specialist. I’m on immunosuppressants for my skin and have never had a skin infection.

Last time I was given a two week course rather than a one week, the doctor said if it clears up as normal stop taking after a week rather than take all two weeks.

I've tried to get a prescription before but I was told because they were antibiotics I need to physically see the GP Confused

I wouldn't normally advise it but seeing as it's a reoccurant issue for you then I would.
