to take time off work

I'm 24 in a professionally qualified job working for a huge firm in London. Since it's a big firm I'm very protected and quite a few people get written off work as it's highly stressful and a lot of people end up developing/bringing out a form of anxiety. We work 50-60 hour weeks minimum and this puts us on below minimum wage. Some people are very socially inept higher up and being spoken to like absolute crap takes its toll on you!

Now I've struggled with anxiety and depression since 14, medicated, therapy etc. but sometimes it's worse than others. However, currently my anxiety is bad for legitimate reasons rather than just having GAD. My brother is suicidal, my work is piling up with no help and no one to go to with it, there's problems at home, my father is very sick, financial worries and house worries.

My doctor has tried writing me off a number of times but I never feel like it'll help. However, now I actually feel like I just need time to heal and figure my head out without the constant deadlines. But I feel very much like I would be judged. It'd be for about 2 weeks and company policy means I'd still get full pay.

I'm looking to move jobs in a few months too and it's very easy for my qualification to find a new, higher paying job, but would being off sick affect it?

Just looking for advice as I feel like I'm about a second from a panic attack :(

Take the time off work, you need to look after yourself.

If you are judged by people you work with, that's on them, not you, they are not living your life and having to deal with the things you are.

Currently going through something similar to you, and i took some time off. Best thing i ever done.

Firstly I'm sorry you're going through this. I worked in a similar environment when I was your age, and towards the end of my time at that company I was signed off work for a week by my GP. The only thing I regret about my actions around this is going back too soon! My GP offered me longer but I didn't feel able to take it. I wish I could go back in time and take the time that I needed.

I never disclosed this to any future employers, and I can't see why you would need to either.

Hope you feel better soon x

Look after yourself first. No job is more important than your health.
