School trip and 48 hour rule FFS

Okay, just a rant. I know I'm not being unreasonable.

But my DS (6) has a school trip today. Another mum posted on the class WhatsApp asking what the rules were for phoning in sick as their child had been sick Sunday night and they wanted to keep them off 48 hours as per the rules.

People replied with the info and said sorry the child will miss said school trip.

Then the mum replied to say her child was really upset about missing the trip and they were going to send them in anyway as they'd only been sick once and fine since Sunday. She even apologised if anyone got sick!

AIBU to be really, really pissed off about this? It's just beyond selfish IMO.

People who don't follow the 48 hour rule (which is advised on the NHS website) drive me mad. There would be so much less v and d about if people were just less selfish.

Standard stomach bugs are spread entirely through people actually ingesting tiny particles of v or d. This may be 'splash-back' if you're standing next to someone who v, it may be drinking from a cup that's been used by someone who has recently v, it might be from touching a door handle that someone with d has touched having not washed their hands well after going to the loo... etc, etc.

The virus can remain in the bowels for weeks, so good hand washing is essential.

I think the 48 hour rule is there because until this amount of time has passed there's a fair chance that you might have another episode of d or v. Children are well known for suddenly puking again when they start eating more normally, their gag reflex and tummies can be sensitive from being ill.

The excitement of a school trip plus a coach journey would be more than enough to trigger a little relapse! I hope the poor child is ok today OP, for their sake and yours!
