Morning

I'm posting here for traffic. My baby is almost 8 months old and has developed this rash on his back.

The first photo was yesterday morning. I took him to the GP who suspected chicken pox but wasn't sure as it wasn't spreading as quickly as she would expect. She didn't seem concerned and said to just keep an eye on it.

The second photo is this morning. It's now quite red and angry and the bigger spots are weeping clear fluid.

He is absolutely fine in himself. Feeding normally, eating, sleeping, laughing and playing. No temperature. He's had a cold for the past week that he is now getting over.
He also has mild eczema so I'm wondering if it's just that that has become exacerbated somehow? There's been no change in washing powder or anything like that.

I called the GP again today but there's no appointments left today. The receptionist suggested a walk in centre but I don't know if that's really necessary given how well he is in himself.

Any ideas what it could be? Thank you.

Meant to add I will be definitely be taking him back to the GP on Monday morning unless it gets much worse before then or if he becomes unwell obviously.

No idea, but it looks very sore.

Lovelylugs · 09/03/2019 10:12

Sounds like chickenpox to me if the blisters are filling with clear fluid. My DS didn't really start to feel sick with it until the spots had been out a few days. Then he was feverish and very itchy.

buttons101 · 09/03/2019 10:12

I'm not sure, it does look angry though. Could you bring him to a pharmacy and get the pharmacist's opinion if there's no GP appointments?

Kilpitlees · 09/03/2019 10:15

I think it might be a staphylococcal skin infection. Is it just in that one area ... with the spots spreading out?
I would go to the walk in centre as he will need an antibiotic.

thirdfiddle · 09/03/2019 10:15

Are the unpopped ones little clear blisters? Looks chicken pox-ish to me. My little ones weren't ill with it just spotty and itchy.

babysharkah · 09/03/2019 10:16

Infected eczema? I'd take him to a walk in.

thirdfiddle · 09/03/2019 10:17

Pharmacist or walk in is a good idea.

babbaganoush · 09/03/2019 10:21

@Kilpitlees yes it started with one spot and has gradually spread outwards from there. It's nowhere else on his body.

It looks like it could be impetigo.

Kilpitlees · 09/03/2019 10:30

I would pop to the walk in centre. I am pretty convinced it is a satelliting staph skin infection. It will not make him feel too unwell but needs the antibiotic to stop it spreading. If not, at least you will have peace of mind that a medic has had another look.

Haggisfish · 09/03/2019 10:33

I agree it needs looking at again and probably antibiotics. Doesn’t look like chicken pox to me. Disclaimer-not a medic.

Helplessfeeling · 09/03/2019 10:34

I think impetigo as well. I would check with a pharmacist.

Stopandlook · 09/03/2019 10:37

Impetigo. Some fucidin (prescription antibiotic cream) needed I suspect.

babbaganoush · 09/03/2019 11:15

Thanks everyone. At a walk in centre now.

It's infected eczema. He's on antibiotics for a week. Thanks for everyone's help Smile

Glad he’s ok.

AtSea1979 · 09/03/2019 14:57

Allergic reaction to the nappy

Meandmetoo · 09/03/2019 15:00

Ah was just going to say infected eczema. I get it occasionally in an unspeakable place Blush

Shouldn't take long to clear up op. But he might need a topical ab rather than liquid if that's what they have given if it doesn't clear up. I get fucidin (I think) and it's gone in about 3 days.

Poor little one. It can get very sore. I find a salt bath helps or some oats in a sock in the bath.

My grandson is just 1 and last week he had a rash very similar to the picture, he was taken to the doctors and told that he had a virus also it may be to do with teething. They just carried on with calpol and it went n a few days.
