To be worried about how much I receive in tax credits

Single mum
Two primary children
I work part time (24 hours a week)
Salary £40k a year (pro rata £24k)
£91 a week spent on childcare

Please see attached for what I receive in tax credit. I have been receiving this ever since I returned to work.

It seems very high.

I am saving a good proportion of it as worried I will be required to pay back.

Is this in line with what others receive?

I have rung hmrc and they have confirmed all my details and confirmed I am receiving the correct amount

I just can’t shake feeling that it’s too much

Call HMRC ASAP to make sure that is the correct amount as it seems high. I was in a position a few years ago where I was overpaid for a year so had to pay it all back at £10 a week as it was all I could afford. It took me three years Hmm.

@DanielRicciardosSmile do you have for example four children two with disabilities?
That’s why you don’t get tax credits earning much less than 40k.

Actually Daniel is £65k cut off if you have childcare costs

With childcare costs
Number of children Annual household income limit for 2018-19
1 £40,000
2 £55,000
3 £65,000

Without childcare costs

Number of children Annual household income limit for 2018-19
1 £25,000
2 £35,000
3 £40,000

That doesn’t mean if you have one children earning 39k with no childcare costs you will get tax credits. That the maximum if you have for example a child with disabilities.

I would phone the tax credits to query it as it definitely seems too much. The last thing you want is a massive overpayment for years to come. And the fact that you are managing to save a lot of it would indicate it’s too high also too high.

we earn slightly less than that combined only 1 child but we get 10 a week. I'm guessing some of that is for childcare ? my friend is a single mum earns less than you ( by a lot ) she said she gets 400 a month for 2 children
