To be fed up with frequent long periods

I know it’s not the worst thing in the world.
They’re not particularly painful.
But it’s a 24-27 day cycle and they’re 7-8 days long. 2-3 days are heavy.
I just feel like I’m on my period a lot.
I have less sex than I’d like
I work shifts and nights and I’m a bit over it all

DP had a vasectomy not that long ago and I though it would be great to be off contraception. Now I’m wondering about a Mirena or something. Have had years of contraception two kids pregnancy breastfeeding all that thought it would be great to have my body back. I don’t really want to go back on contraception for this reason. If they were just less frequent or not so long I wouldn’t mind.

Just fed up.
Tell me I’m a twat.

I’m peri menopausal. I have been on for over two and half months. Continuous. You can call me a twat too. Totally fed up with it as well. I feel ur pain.

Member984815 · 08/03/2019 19:32

I've a cycle of 26 -33 days I average out at 29 days 3 days heavy and lasts 7 days , you're not a twat . I'd go to GP see if you could get something to ease the symptoms

StillRunningWithScissors · 08/03/2019 19:35

Well, I'll join you with being fed up.

Also think I'm perimenopausal, as for the last four months I've only had two weeks between periods. And they've become heavier and longer.

God I hope this doesn't continue for years...

VforVienetta · 08/03/2019 19:38

Similar here, 25 day cycle, with 7 days of period, 2-3 v heavy days, and a week before of boob pain and crankiness.
So basically a week of normal life, and a fortnight of period related irritants, then repeat.

I take Tranexamic Acid now to ease the flow and it's made a big difference. If I take it properly it shortens my period too.
My cycle used to be 31-32 days, but post DC it's got progressively shorter. If it gets any shorter than this I'll be fuming.

My peri periods were horrendous, massively heavy and so painful I would vomit and I would be bleeding most of the time. I had severe anemia and zero energy, I put off having a mirena for ages because of the horror stories you read but literally on my knees I gave in and got one. Turned out to be the best decision I had ever made, after initial spotting for a few months I've been totally period free for 3 years it's been amazing, have got my life back! This one should see me through the menopause so the thought of never having another period is bliss.

I'm not asking to be facetious, but is that not normal then? That is pretty much exactly the same as my average cycle at the moment - in fact, I've been charting atain for the past 10 cycles (since having DC2) and my average cycle length is 25 days. Most periods last a week (in fact I had one that was 9 days if you include a couple of days at the end of spotting.

My periods have always been a bit random though - they were very frequent when I was younger, then when TTC DC1 would be anywhere from 23-31 days! (Though would only last around 3-5 days). Between DC1 and 2 they were more 'standard', every 27-28 days, lasting around 5/6 days. And now this.

Is it normal for periods to change so much? Tbh, I think my hormones have always been a bit all over the place!

Sorry, no help OP, just interested in if this is something to be concerned about.. Is that type of cycle typical of being peri- menopausal? Though am only 36 so possibly too young..

Sorry also for hijacking your thread Blush

You don't have to put up with this. Go to your GP and get yourself checked out/referred for fibroids and mirena. Best thing I ever did for myself (so far).

user1486076969 · 08/03/2019 20:49

Had treatment for fibroids plus mirena at the same time. Ended up having 2nd mirena. Result = no periods for over 10 years i.e. from age 46 to menopauseGrin.

avocadochocolate · 08/03/2019 20:51

Yep. Get a Mirena! They're life-changing.

Most of my mates seem to think I’m hard done by with my periods, which are similar to this. More frequent than average and longer than average.

Of course there are worse things and they’re not painful, they’re heavyish but not unbearable. Never had any fertility problems. I am grateful for all that. Etc.

Mine have always been regular and long. I Remember my first period when I was 12 lasting 13 days and I thought I was gonna die. My mum had always had lovely light short periods and had no idea how bad mine were

I’m a sex every day kinda girl and I do have sex on my period sometimes but it’s not much fun is it. and I just get really sad every time it’s here- I’m 39 this is a bit ridiculous!!

I work long night shifts on my feet and feel like they are hard enough without heavy period, grr.

Was so excited about never having to take pills/have coil/etc when dp got his vasectomy but maybe will make appt with GP and have a chat.

Wouldn’t bother with mirena if your oh has had a vasectomy. Ask the doctor to prescribe tranexamic acid (tablets you take for the first 3 days of period). It’s amazing
